This song is about trying to fix someone you cannot fix. You cannot fix another person no matter how hard you try.The person will eventually fix on their own and you have to accept that. Perhaps she is upset and depressed about a certain thing and she cannot let go of it. He keeps trying to fix her but he can't.

Some people think that this song's about a diseased woman on her deathbed. Personally, I think the song is more mental than physical. He thought he could heal her easily, magically, with a kiss. Meaning that his love for sleeping beauty would be enough but it wasn't because she was too far gone. Another reason why this song is about some mental illness whether it be an actually diagnosed illness or her ability to resist his love and not death was because, in reality, you cannot "cure" the dead. The mention of her "hiding from some poisoned memory" and "far beyond a visible sign of your awakening" shows that's she's running away mentally from something that happened to her in her past: a memory, that's too powerful for him alone to soothe or she may not want soothed.
