Athlete – You Got The Style lyrics
Oh no
Gone and put my foot in it again
Think back
Can't believe that it was me who said that
Last time I promised I'd bite my tongue until I counted to ten

I said
Oh
It's getting hot in here
Must be something in the atmosphere

It's getting hot in here
Must be something in the atmosphere
Oh
We could be laughing about it
Making the most of the true British climate

Oh
It's getting hot in here
Must be something in the atmosphere

I've seen the tension on the high street growing lately
Seems that you have to be careful who you look at
Sometimes I can't see things the way you see them but this is our home

I said
Oh
It's getting hot in here
Must be something in the atmosphere
Oh
We could be laughing about it
Making the most of the true British climate

Oh
It's getting hot in here
Must be something in the atmosphere

Yeah
You got the style
And we got the style
And they got the style
And everybody's got it

And you got the style
And we got the style
And they got the style
And everybody's got it

And you got the style
And we got the style

It's getting hot in here
Must be something in the atmosphere
Oh
We could be laughing about it
Making the most of the true British climate

Oh
It's getting hot in here
Must be something in the atmosphere

This is such a groovy song, I sing the lyrics in my head as I read them!
It seems to be about tension, perhaps a fight or argument where he's just said exactly what's on his mind and not hesitated and is not facing the consequences of his actions -"gone and put my foot in it again". This also says to me that this is a frequent occurrence, that he does it all the time perhaps! "It's getting hot in here"/the chorus appears to show that he's feeling really awkward about it, and regretting his choice to sat what's on his mind. That he wished they would just laugh about it and let it slide. Could be an argument with his partner or a friend, or maybe just a stranger. "this is our home" could just mean they live in the same area. The Style part could have a hidden meaning but I just think of it as a random chorus! Fits in well with the song. I guess it could mean the same thing as "walking it off" - avoiding what he's said, changing the subject maybe?
