Avenged Sevenfold – So Far Away lyrics
Never feared for anything.
Never shamed but never free.
A light
that healed a broken heart with all that it could

Lived a
life so endlessly.
Saw beyond what others see.
I tried
to heal your broken heart with all that I could

Will you
stay?
Will you stay away forever?

How do I
live without the ones I love?
Time still turns the pages of the book it's burned.
Place and time always
on my mind.
I have so much
to say but you're so far away.

Plans of what our
futures hold
Foolish lies of growin' old
It seems we're so invincible, the
truth is so cold.

A
final song, a last request
A perfect chapter laid to rest
Now and then I try to find a place in my mind

Where you can say,
You can
stay awake forever.

How do I live without the ones
I love?
Time still turns the pages of the book it's burned.
Place and time always on my mind.
I have so much to say but you're so far away.

Sleep tight, I'm not afraid.
The ones that we love are here with me.
Lay away a place for me
'Cause as soon
as I'm done, I'll be on my way
To live on eternally.

How do I live without the ones I love
?
Time still turns the pages of the book it's burned
Place and time always on my mind
And the light you left remains but it's so hard to stay
When I had so
much to say and you're so far away.

I love you
You were ready
The pain is strong and urges rise
But I'll see you
When it lets me
Your pain is gone, your hands untied.

So far away.

I need you to know

So far away

And I need you to,
Need you to know...

"so far away" by avenged sevenfold is a tribute to the band's late drummer, jimmy "the rev" sullivan. He was a long time friend to all of the members of the band, and had known them all since childhood. When he passed, the band was devastated, and though the entire album "nightmare" was dedicated to the rev, this song was meant to express the band's feelings of emptiness and sorrow when he passed. It's one of the most (if not the most) emotional song avenged sevenfold has ever written.

Everytime I listen to this song I want to cry. I believe that no matter how long, be it one week, one month, one year or even ten years, it is hard to forget someone who has been there. I just hope that please don't get too sad ovrr his death. I believe he will be free now. Cherish those around you. You never know when will they be gone.

Every time I listen to this song I think of te people I've lost in my life. Not only is this a phenomenal song in its own right, and is something to have playing in the background and mindlessly sing along to the lyrics, but when you really listen to it, it tells a story of a soul so many knew and loved for numerous different reasons. And as much as we all miss jimmy, we know he's somewhere looking upon us, laughing at us crying at the lyrics that inspire us all so much and cunjure up so many lost and forgotton emotions. Even synster's solos send shivers down my spine as you remember all the stupid photos you've seen of jimmy taking the piss and just being the easy-going fun-loving guy he was. As aware as I am that none of avenged will ever read this, I want to thank them for the amount of time they have filled with their amazing music and the emotions they bring back. They are truly inspirational and I know I wouldn't be here without their music.

It was wrote for the rev but it can be used for anyone that you lost and you cared for. Seriously though, I mean I miss the rev as well but I don't have the close attachment that say syn or shadows have. I can't. Outside of listening to them live, I don't go back stage and hang out with them, go to the movies together, eat lunch, etc. You can say what you want but music is intended to be interpreted by the listener so create your own meanings and don't listen to what others say.

Sometimes we are so far away from gods will, that we try to seek it on our own. When we trust the promises he's given to us, will all be the beter for it. Need to consider, where we have been. Where thier going! To eiter walk with him or not, black and white man. Or black and blue! The same for yourselves as you would consider' all the possibilites in him.

Song writer is brian "synyster gates" haner (guitarisr of the band). He wrote this to jimmy "the rev" sullivan (real name, james owen sullivan, the bands former drummer who passed away) after he passed. It was a letter to him in song form. If you listen to the song it has a feel of just a guy and his guitar, but with everyone in the band playing along. It was ment to be synyster gates singing it to the rev and at the same time there all playing and singing it to him. Are. I. P jimmy.

Its much as a love song, as per my views. We all love rev very much. He may not be in our eyes, but will always be in our hearts. This song also denotes the condition, when a person has got a lot of things to say somebody he loves dearly, but couldn't say it as he's too much far away.
I've got many things to say to my love, but she stays far away from me. This song makes me cry, and is really a "straight to heart" song. Hands up if you agree.

We had planned my sons second birthday on may 14th, 2005. His dad and I were no longer together but we got along well and we went half on his birthday party expenses. I got a knock on my door at 7am may 13th (friday) 2005. My aunt telling me something bad had happened to joe and she didn't know much but she had heard that the coroner was called to the scene of an accident on the road he lived on and it was thought that it was him. As it turned out it was him. So instead of a two year old childs birthday party it was his fathers funeral. Sooo tragic. Still nearly 7 years ago.

My ex-boyfriend has been through four deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. He is one of the strongest people I know. Avenged sevenfold got him through every one of his deployments. He took me to see them in May of this year in Pennsylvania. We are stationed in Fort Eustis, Va so we drove 13 hours round trip. His face lights up every time he hears them and he knows every word to every song they ever sang. He is having the death bat tattoo'd on his chest in honor of what avenged sevenfold has got him through. He is an infantry soldier who now has to retire from doing what he loves because he suffers ptsd and a brain injury from an ied explosion. He is an wonderful person and I am grateful that he made it back alive thanks to god and avenged sevenfold. So thank you for giving him the drive to push on.

I love this whole album it all has so much meaning for me. My brother took his life 2 1/2 yrs ago and I'm still trying to deal with it. He suffered from schizophrenia and would never talk to us about it so I felt so helpless but when he was with us he just wanted to hve fun and laugh and play with the kids. Never told anyone what was reallly going on till I found his journals I am blogging about his life. I play this cd all the time it just seems to be exactly how I feel and how my brother felt on this earth. I am very gratefull for them making this album. My heart goes out to the band members and they are all in my thots and prayers.

This song was orginally about synyster gates' grandfather, but wound up being about the rev. Jimmy did not die from suicide, even though he had been thinking about it (fiction) and he died from the 4-5 medications he had been taking to control his enlarged heart, and had been drinking too much both before and after. The alcohol combined with the meds was too much for poor jimmy, and it killed him.

To me so far away is about losing someone either to death or breaking up and the pain it causes and that you waant that person there with you because you have so many thing to tell them and that if you coul you would have them with you and not taken away. I see it this way because the girl I love broke up with me and since I see her every day at the college I'm at just keeps renewing the pain and that she acts different to me now.

My meaning for so far away is very emotional song. It tells a lot about how much jimmy was so close to them and how much matt, johnny, zacky, and synyter really misses him. This song is basically sending out a message to jimmy that he is forever in their mind and forever in their hearts. This song is also a goodbye song for jimmy. Synyster wrote this because him and jimmy were both really close, they grew up together and partied and pretty much had each others back. Matt, zacky, and johnny helped write the song as well. Jimmy was the one that got syn into the band avenged sevenfold. At the end of the song they explain that jimmy was ready to leave this world and that they all love him very much and will see him soon when it's their time. This song has so much emotion towards it. Jimmy died on my birthday. It was a tragic to me when I found out in 09. I've been avenged sevenfold fan for many years. Ever since their second album came out and yet I was really young back then. I'm looking forward to their new album. It won't be the same without jimmy. Yet we all miss him very much and will see him soon when it's our time. We love you and miss you jimmy. I also like the thanks avenged sevenfold for their music. A lot of their songs has a lot of meaning to them. I'd like to thanks synyster for inspiring me to play the guitar ever since I was fourteen. I'm looking forward to meeting you guys.
    Thanks
    ~marcus.

I think the meaning of this song is that someone or him has lost somebody really close to him like the rev which the song is originally titled for but this song is a good song to listen to when you are very sad or depressed.
I also listened to this song when I lost my very first best friend in an accident that occurred last year.
We were friends since the 1st grade.

Since their dearest drummer the rev just died not too long ago, the band has been pretty much scarred for life. They got another drummer, but they still think about the rev in their songs. The rev is pretty much all they write about ever since he passed away. The members of the band were best buds with the rev and he will forever be remembered in the soul of metal.

Well, what I thick the meaning for "so far away" is that the members of the band "avenged sevenfold" are saying how much they miss their drummer, the rev (are. I. P), and how they can't wait to see him again. For they were childhood friends. Also, how they go though daily struggles just to get though the day without the rev, and how the band is doing good. I feel as if the band is still going to pursue their dreams, and once they are done, they will head to heaven. Just to see the rev again. Jimmy ray sullivan, may you rest in peace. ~emi-chan.

This song is obviously in resonse to jimmy "the rev"s passing. It was unfortunate. It is the perfect song when mourning for a loved one who you felt attatched to. Basically the meaning is that although they are gone, we will meet them in paradise, that all this pain and mourning will stay on earth and our spirt will live on will them when we are gone, and when we do meet them they are saving a spot for us waiting for us to tell them stories and love them for an eternity: ')

Its always hard to loose someone you love. Jimmy was a giant part of the band and the lives of the fans. I haven't seen them live before, I actually was supposed to today, but now I wont ever have the chance to see jimmy. At least not til I'm in heaven too. 'promise me youll never be afraid' 'sleep tight I'm not afraid, the ones we love are here with me' rest in peace stallion duck loving jimmy.
    Forever.

Its about death, the loss of someone you love. Often times people take life for granted, so many things left unsaid but when a loved one dies that's when you'd realize there was so much you wish you would have said. In retrospect, it speaks of not just the cons of death but the pros. For example you feel somewhat at peace knowing the person is a better place, place where they can't feel any pain or drown in the sorrows of reality. Or whats left of it. Death helps people see the good in others too.

This is a great song, and I think of everyone I have lost in my lifetime. Especially my grandfather who raised me as his daughter. He was a prisoner of war in the korean war, and he definitely lived his life to the fullest. He loved fully, dedicated his life to his family, and passed away a hero to me and the country. He truly is the perfect chapter laid to rest.

This song is incredible, I know it was written for the rev, but think about your own life, it's a metaphor for the people that you've lost, and it above all else, conveys that life is short, no one gets to live forever, remember the great times you have with the people you love and always have hope and faith that you'll see them again someday. If you watch the all access dvd I think the message that screams out at you is how much these guys love each other, it's a tragedy that jimmy died so young, but nameless faceless people younger than that die everyday, and somewhere somebody loves them and is feeling the pain and sorrow for their loss. Avenged sevenfold is a very brilliant band!

What can I say? Jimmy "the rev" sullivan will always be with me in my heart. He was an amazing drummer and I know that he was and always will be watching over a7x through all they do. He inspired me go play the drums and become a drummer for my friend's band. If only he were still here so we could see him in concert one last time. But lets just remember. He wouldnt want us crying and being depressed because he aint here. He would want us to smile and enjoy all the memories of him being in a7x. So lets smile. And remember jimmy for all he was! ~rip: rev.

I love this song. I see the lyrics in a different way but still with a loss. My daughter has bi-polar and the mental illness keeps her away from her family. We always worried that this time she is "to far away" and there is so much if we could see her of what we want to say. I love the tribute to Rev. The video is so touching. I missed them in concert recently but they are already coming back to my area. I have to see them.

My ex-boyfriend has been through four deployments in 8 years to Iraq and Afghanistan. He is by far one of the strongest people I know. Without a doubt he will tell you that Avenged Sevenfold got him through every last painstaking minute of his multiple tours. As an infantry soldier, leader, and fan he makes me proud every second of every day. We are stationed at Fort Eustis, Va and he took me to Pennsylvania to see Avenged sevenfold in concert. We drove 13 hours round trip. I didn't really understand what he meant by "this band got me through" until I saw them in concert and saw the look on his face as they played. He knew every word to every single song. It was then that I saw what he has been through and what the band to has endured with the loss of the Rev. Mikeee is getting the death bat tattoo in honor of the Rev and the band and what they're music did for him in the way of getting him through his tours. He is now retiring by no choice of his own because of ptsd and a brain injury he survived luckily after an ied explosion. So thank you to Avenged and god for bringing him back alive and for giving him the strength to lead and keep fighting for all of us. We may not be together anymore but I will always be proud of what he has done and what he has given up to be a us army Infantry soldier.

The rev is a beautiful man I'm gonna have to agree. My friend was like "na he has too much tattoo" I was are you high?!?!?!? But of course in my opinoin they are all beautiful men. Execpt johhny christ. He looks better with a full head of hair in my opion. No dout hes amazing I wish I could play the bass like that. I wish I could play the drums that way. But no body will ever be that great. My heart and prayers go to matt, zacky, johnny, and syn. And it sucks cuz matt and zacky are the only original members. Syn has been with us for a long time but hes not original. He is if you don't get all technical tho lol.

It has a double meaning. The obvious one. Losing those you love is painful. But they already did what their mission was in life. Now you got to finish yours before your time is up. Personal meaning. He lost someone (as in a relationship) at first he was not sure how he felt. Then he realized the truth and he accepts it and forces them out of his mind so he continue doing what he has to do. Now his life is just one step shorter since he lost her as a goal. I hope I make sense. I tried to explain it the best I could.

I love a7x there amazing and thnks for them that there is a song that relates to me. Every word is meaningful. I sang this to her with my friends at the train station. It has been 5 months now. I think it could be about both. When you loose a love so close to you a part of you dies or feels like it already has. The only light left in your life is the memory of what can no longer be. A part of you dies, your happiness, everything and the only peace is to try and escape it through sleep or eternal death. You both are right the loss of the love caused the death.

This song was Released by avenged Sevenfold for their drummer 'The Rev' (Jimmy Sullivan) who died from an OD on a drug. the song was made with so much emotion from the band, this was for two reasons. To emphasis how much they are going to miss him and how much they love him, also, to release all the emotions that were building up inside them. loosing someone you love is one of the toughest challenges in live and I believe they overcame this with this song. So Far Away can also be useful to people who have lost a loved one and are grieving as they can strongly connect to these lyrics. I know from experience that what I claim in this meaning is true as I have been through dark time much like loosing a closed loved one.

This video is a raw and emotional tribute to avenged sevenfold's late drummer jimmy "the rev" sullivan and celebrates the long-time friendship the band members have shared since forming a7x in huntington beach, ca, in 1999. The video was directed by wayne isham, who has directed videos for such artists as metallica, mötley crüe, megadeth, and def leppard, among many others. The heartfelt quality of the video is in keeping with the emotional resonance of the song, a very personal goodbye to sullivan that appears on the band's album nightmare.
