The Beatles – In My Life lyrics
There are places I remember
All my life, though some have changed
Some forever not for better
Some have gone and some remain
All these places have their moments
With lovers and friends I still can recall
Some are dead and some are living
In my life I've loved them all

But of all these friends and lovers
There is no one compares with you
And these memories lose their meaning
When I think of love as something new
Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more

Though I know I'll never lose affection
For people and things that went before
I know I'll often stop and think about them
In my life I love you more
In my life I love you more

In my life was written as an autobiography of john lennon, and was included in their album: rubber soul. It was released in '65 as one of the beatles favorites. John lennon thought it up and started writing it in 64, but forgot about it until the next year, when he finished it and released it. Some of the original verses were ""penny lane is one I'm missing/up church rd to the clocktower/in the circle of the abbey/i have seen some happy hours. //past the tramsheds with no trams/on the 5 bus into town/past the dutch and st. Columbus/to the dockers umbrella that they pilled down; " in john's own handwriting (typos and all), which referred to some old places in liverpool that he remembers. Some people interpret it as one of the best love songs ever, and i guess that it can be interpreted that way. The lyrics are directed to a suspected, though probably imaginary, lover, to whom lennon was telling that he remembers a lot of people, places, and lovers, and will dwell on them (in his thoughts) often, but he loves her the most of everything that came before. When he mentions the line that "some (of his friends) are dead and some are living, " the "dead" refers to stuart sutcliffe, an original beatle and a good friend of lennon's.
