Casting Crowns – Jesus, Friend Of Sinners lyrics
Jesus Friend of sinners we have strayed so far away
We cut down people in your name but the sword was never ours to swing
Jesus friend of sinners the truth's become so hard to see
The world is on their way to You but they're tripping over me
Always looking around but never looking up I'm so double minded
A plank eyed saint with dirty hands and a heart divided

Oh Jesus friend of sinners
Open our eyes to world at the end of our pointing fingers
Let our hearts be led by mercy
Help us reach with open hearts and open doors
Oh Jesus friend of sinners break our hearts for what breaks yours

Yeah...

Jesus friend of sinners the one who's writing in the sand
Make the righteous turn away and the stones fall from their hands
Help us to remember we are all the least of these
Let the memory of Your mercy bring your people to their knees

Nobody knows what we're for only against when we judge the wounded
What if we put down our signs crossed over the lines and loved like You did

Oh Jesus friend of sinners
Open our eyes to world at the end of our pointing fingers
Let our hearts be led by mercy
Help us reach with open hearts and open doors
Oh Jesus friend of sinners break our hearts for what breaks yours

You love every lost cause; you reach for the outcast
For the leper and the lame; they're the reason that You came
Lord I was that lost cause and I was the outcast
But you died for sinners just like me a grateful leper at Your feet

'Cause You are good, You are good And Your love endures forever
You are good, You are good and Your love endures forever
You are good, You are good and Your love endures forever
You are good, You are good and Your love endures forever

Oh Jesus friend of sinners
Open our eyes to world at the end of our pointing fingers
Let our hearts be led by mercy
Help us reach with open hearts and open doors
Oh Jesus friend of sinners break our hearts for what breaks Yours

And I was the lost cause and I was the outcast
Yeah...
You died for sinners just like me, a grateful leper at Your feet

Jesus friend of sinners - playing as I reflect and repent this morning of my own sinful nature and remember that pointing fingers are of the world and not of Jesus. That is both my pointing fingers and those who point fingers at me. Oh Lord open my eyes and my heart that I might be led by your mercy. Help me to reach with an open heart and open door to those at the end of my pointed finger. Give me a heart to forgive those who point fingers at me. Oh Jesus friend of us sinners break all of our hearts for what breaks yours. Our own sin. Forgive me Lord for I have sinned.

I love the message of this song. One of the things among a handful of things that turns off unbelievers to the gospel are these Christians who go around pointing fingers at people (whether they be Christians or non-christians) who aren't living as moral of a life as they aughta be. Lord knows I've encountered some who scorned me for that. Maybe I made an inappropriate joke or 2, maybe a curse word slip out when I got hurt. And they jumped all over me. Casting stones seems to be their specialty. Fortunately my experience with these types of believers hasn't been common, but it hasn't been rare either.

What a marvelous song! It really hits home! The song speaks a lot to me especially "oh jesus friend of sinners/ open our eyes to world at the end of our pointing fingers/let our hearts be led by mercy /help us reach with open hearts and open doors/oh jesus friend of sinners break our hearts for what breaks yours. "
It reminds us christians to always be rembering to love the lost causes and outcasts, and then remeber that we were once like them. We were wretches without hope, until jesus came. The only thing that sets us apart is that we were saved by redeeming grace. Let's show the world jesus' redeeming grace, by loving the lost causes and outcasts.

In my opinion, this song is about how us christians cut people down by judging and finding out who is doing what behind closed doors instead of focusing on bringing people to christ and pointing fingers when it isn't our place to and we are blinded by the "way" we are supposed to live and have fallen away from whats truly important and that's gods word and to love like he did. We are the ones throwing stones when it clearly says "those without sin cast the first stone" we are more about telling everyone what we are against and what isn't accepted and not about what god sent jesus for and that's to save the sinner and give us everlasting life.

I love this song. It shows us that we judge people from their look, from their past, but we need to take a walk in their shoes before we judge them. In fact, we do not judge, god does! We do not sit on a throne in heaven, saying, "guilty. " or, "innocent. " we are not god, he is much more powerful than us. We are a crumb on a feast table to him. But he treasures us much more than that. He says that we are his masterpiece. We were once a sinner, and people looked down on us, but now that we are saved, we do the same. So jesus, let us see that we are all equal in your eyes lord god. And that you are the only one who looks down on people. Forgive us of our sins, and let us know, that you are all powerful, not us. Amen.

We forget where we came from and we forget we are not judge and jury to the sinner. If jesus had not been our friend where would we be? We have no right to point our fingers at the sinner, and we need to have the love and compassion of jesus, and when we lift ourselves above the sinner we are no better than the sinner even if we are saved.

It's not our place to judge or condemn others. That's god's place. The only sins we need to concern ourselves about are our own. Personally, it disburbs me to see these heated campaigns against homosexuality--why not adultery? Lying? Jealous envy? Dishonoring your parents? We always condemn people for sin we do not commit to make ourselves feel superior--but only one is superior and that is jesus christ. A murderer and a liar are both sinners.

We need to be more like jesus and love people into the kingdom. We need to see people as jesus sees them. These are the people he came to die for and to set them free from sin. We need to stop judging others and seeing their faults when we have our own faults. Be thankful to jesus for loving us in the state we are in and dying for us. Our righteousness is nothing compared to the righteousness of the son of god. The world will know us by our love we have and share. This is how they see jesus. When we show them hatred, judgement, and hypocrisy why would they ever want any part of christianity.

Actually, this song is a bit empty to me. While we must not "judge" the truth is, if we don't recognize our own sin, and if another doesn't recognize his/her sin, what need is there for a savior? Yes, these lyrics are necessary for all christians to remember to not judge others, yet, in our time of great apostasy and "feel good" doctrine, we must be very careful to not ignore sin and condone it, because while christ is mercy and love, he is also enough love to be judgement, as well.
    God bless!

The 1st verse I think is talking about how all the poeple that knew jesus but have lost him, or have never known him but they can't because someone like or you hve got in the way. The corus talks about how we (christians) are not here to be in the way that we (christians) are here to help the ones that canot come to him by thier selves or that have backsliden and need help getting back on track. The 2nd verse I believe is talking about how no matter what goes on or what we do jesus is always there for us. You are good god! Thank you for all you did for us!
