Charlie Winston – She Went Quietly lyrics
There's really not so much to tell.
She was 29, showing signs of doing well
For herself.

She never spoke of feeling sad.
Was, oh, so close with the family and friends
She had around her.

But she went quietly.
She didn't make a sound.
She went quietly
With the wish not to be found
.

She went quietly
Without a word of where.
Just a note that wrote:
"Forgetting is easier."

Years have fallen since the day
She wrote the note and chose to float away
Into the Ether.
Someone said they saw her south
At the coast on the river's mouth,
But only briefly.

'Cause she went quietly.
She didn't make a sound.
She went quietly
With the wish not to be found.

She went quietly
Without a word of where.
Just a note that wrote:
"Forgetting is easier."

She went quietly.
She didn't make a sound.
She went quietly
With the wish not to be found.

She went quietly
Without a word of where.
Just a note that wrote:
"Forgetting is easier."

Out of the blue, in the pouring rain,
To my doorstep, old and cold today she came,
With her story.

I asked her in, but she declined.
Had just one, single thing to get off her mind.
And, that was, "Sorry."

I think it's about observing someone from afar, seeing thier life and thinking it's good. Then you get to know that maybe it's not so good, so she leaves. I think that she felt she was poisoning the society she was in and then could no longer stay. But her ties were so deep she kept her eye on the people (saw her south) and eventually had to apologise, not only to them, but to herself. She robbed herself of a beautiful life.

I agree with the suicide slant. However I would also like to add another slant. I can invision this song about a young-middle aged woman fighting a health battle (like cancer), after trying tremensously to fight it she realises that she will not be successful. She tries to keep her pride, and wants to let everyone around her think that she is fighting the battle, and in addition to this doesn't want people to remember her as sick. Therefore "she went quietly". She loved her family and friends around her, but fighting the battle was getting too hard, so she gave up, and all she can pledge is "sorry". Heartbreaking. A truly amazing song.

Even though everyone thought she was doing ok, I believe she was depressed in spite of having her family and being near them. But something happened that at some point she needed to go away not telling anyone so she could deal with whatever she was going thru by herself. And then at some she ended up checking on something (family, one she loved) to see they were ok. Trying to forget what ever caused her problems or problems with one she loved. And after years she finally had the courage to go to whom ever and apologize for whatever may have happened to cause the rift she felt she caused.

I heard him live yesterday and he told two stories about this song. The first one tells that his parents owned a hotel when he was little and his aunt looked after him and his little sister, but someday she was tired of family and things and wrote this note and went away. The other one is about a couple who often checked in at the hotel of his parents and they adopted a two-year-old girl. 16 years later she was allowed to look for her real parents and when she found them she stayed with them a left her adoptive parents. So both women went quietly. (sorry for mistakes, but english isn't my native language).

It's about a girl who was feeling so sad deep down inside but it never showed it and everyone saw that she was doing fine and she wasn't harming herself in any way. She just needed to get away and after years have passed she came back older in the pouring rain to apologize for her leaving without a notice and she said "sorry" but she didn't want to get back together anymore. It's a simple story yet a very sad one :( :( :(
