This song is new to me. First heard it 30 minutes ago, and I have it looping continuously in a effort to stop choking up (I'm trying to play it on a rhodes). Great songs have many meanings; to different people, and at different ages. Essentially it's about being rescued from loneliness. My mother, who lost her husband of 50 years a few years back, would probably cry for a week if she heard the lyrics. For myself, having been married for 33 years, the after death stuff is also very powerful, and it's us guys that usually leave someone behind when we go. This just plucks a nerve like a guitar string. Another point I would like to bring up: in many long term relationships, it's common to lose that connection, sometimes for years. Find me, could be interpreted as re-finding the magic that all loving relationships with. This song works on so many levels.

For me find me is about unrequited love. It is about how you would like that someone to feel when you are apart, that somehow he will sacrifice everything just to find you. It is about someone's inner desires to be found, for love to find him/ her and hoping that his thoughts of how to love is the same as that of the person who is meant for him/her.

I picture this song in my head as an old man dying. Telling these words (the lyrics) to his beloved.
And I believe that this is what this song really meant.
This song has an obvious and striking lines.
- "if i should ever leave this world before you do"
- "so if we get separated"
David gates used simple words in writting this song, yet the composition and construction is undeniably creatively unforgettable.
Try to play song and read the lyrics all over again then try to picture out a scenario of a dying man telling his last sweet words to his wife. Make sense to me.

This song is kind of a sad/loneliness song for someone who left by their loved one, loved one who can not accept that he/she will separate from the love of her/his life. It's also some kind of a selfishness, cause it says there in the lyrics "Don't eat, don't sleep, till you find me".
