Ed Sheeran – Small Bump lyrics
[Verse 1:]
You're just a Small Bump unborn, Four months you're brought to life,
You might be left with my hair, but you'll have your Mother's eyes,
I'll hold your body in my hands be as gentle as I can, and now your scan on
My unmade plans,
Small bump four months then brought to life

[Bridge:]
I'll whisper quietly, I'll give you nothing but truth,
If your not inside me, I'll put my future in you

[Chorus:]
Cause you are my one, and only.
And You can wrap your fingers round my thumb and hold me tight.
Oh you are my one, and only.
You can wrap your fingers round my thumb and hold me tight.
And you'll be alright.

[Verse 2:]
Your just a small bump unknown and you'll grow into your skin.
With a smile like hers and a dimple beneath your chin.
Finger nails the size of a half grain of rice.
And eyelids closed to be soon opened wide a small bump, in Four months
You'll open your eyes
.

[Bridge:]
And I'll hold you tightly, And tell you nothing but truth,
If your not inside me, I'll put my future in you

[Chorus:]
You are my one, and only.
You can wrap your fingers round my thumb and hold me tight.
Oh you are my one, and only.
You can wrap your fingers round my thumb and hold me tight.
And you'll be alright.

[Verse 3:]
And You can lie with me, with your tiny feet when your half asleep, I'll leave You be.
Right in front of me for a couple weeks.
So I can keep you safe.

[Chorus:]
Cause you are my one, and only.
You can wrap your fingers round my thumb and hold me tight.
Oh you are my one, and only.
You can wrap your fingers round my thumb and hold me tight.
And you'll be alright.

[Verse 4:]
Your just a small bump unborn just four months then torn from life.
Maybe you were needed up there but we're still un-aware as why

This is a superb observation of life before birth and the thoughts of caring for a new born. But this is stripped from him (or a friend) by a misscarriage after four months.
I listend to this song and read the lyrics and I cried for whom ever this was meant. (i am male!)
Unless you have been through this process you will never know the pain.
Superb poetry. (we give you love) to paraphrase another song.

This song makes me cry! It's got shuch a beatiful meaning and is about something heartbreacking, the loss of a baby. It's also about the hopeful anticipation of new life during pregnancy. To lose a bay with only four months to go is devestating as once past a certain point you don't worry about losing your baby, you feel safe that your baby will live love you ed sheeranxx.

At first I thought it was a cool song about a new baby then I realised that they lost it. I dedicated it to my little girl (who is now 7) but she is a miracle. I was never meant to have children and she is my only one and ivf, she was taken away when she was born with an infection and we thought we were going to lose her. This song to me means a lot I love her so much.

Verse 1: it obviously stars of with ed singing about the baby bump and how small it was -earlyish stage of pregnancy. The bridge talks about him guiding his child to come and he'll put every ounce of his life into making sure this child has good upbringing and future. The chorus goes on about the child being his first, and when babies feel they grab things and it also shows how small the childs hand will be compared to his thumb and hugging him, lastly the child will be safe with him around. Verse 2: as babies have wrinkly skin, obviously they grow into it and it'll stretch, some obvious characteristics of both parents could be passed onto this child and basically how small it is. With four months to go, they baby will see the world. Verse 3 talks about him lieing next to the child on a bed(as most parents do) and how he'll be a protector and keep it safe. Verse 4: (the most shocking) reveals his child was a still birth and the phrase 'torn from life' is quite aggressive and shocking and it explains how his heart must have just fell to pieces, the last line talks about heaven('up there') and they aren't sure why they would want his little, unborn child.

I had a miscarriage with what would of been my second child and I never knew pain until I went through that! I have a 4 week old and there wasnt a week that went by that I didn't have at least a day where I was constantly petrified of losing her like I lost my other baby. This song really touched me and I really did have a good cry when I first heard it. Its a beautiful song that will resonate with anyone whos been through the horror of losing a child and will give everyone else an insight on the pain that goes with such a loss.

Ed is clearly writing from a perspective of someone who's the father of the baby. Whether or not it is actually about him is a mystery. The song describes full features that he'd have imagined of the baby - which perhaps makes you think as though the baby is alive. But towards the middle you get the idea that this song isn't as happy as it seems with the beat. The lyrics accompany greatly emotions people in the situation may endure in such tragic events. His open way of speaking about the situation shows a sense of acceptance to the situation. This is clearly such a emotion-felt song of which encounters such great emotions. His desires of being with and playing with the baby are tragic. And as he states "for a couple weeks so i can keep you safe" shows the desperation he has to have been able to look after the baby. The question is left as to whereever the baby is now and the confusion that was left behind.

Into the third/ forth month of pregnancy a baby come to life as their heart starts to beat! This is what he means when he says at "four months you were brought to life. " but obviously during this time the women he is talking about has a miscarriage, this is what the song is about and I think it is a lovely song that will help alot of other people cope with having a miscarriage. I myself lost my baby four months into my pregnancy and it has helped me so much!
Thanks ed sheeren you are a brilliant singer/ song writer.

I think it is about the baby dying at birth as throughout the song he say 'four months then brought to life' so to me the woman who is pregnant is 6 months pregnant and has 4 left. And then at the end of the song it is all revealed that in 'just four months then torn from life' therefore he is writing it in the past, saying you have planned this for the baby but you don't know whats coming. Though at the end is says 'just 4 months' therefore it could be a miscarriage at 4 months.

I think this lovely song is about him and his best friend making a baby accidently then they have got to get used to the idea of having a baby. Then in four months the baby is torn from life (died). This is such a sad song and I don't know if I'm right but it does still carry great meaning and grief. Well done ed! Lovee you .

I know what this song is about and it breaks my heart, ed sheeran's best friend that he likes to keep unknown lost her baby with only four months to it's birth. He could not think of a way to cheer her up, so he picked up his guitar and did what he does best, which was write her a beautiful song. She said it would go far so she told him to put it on his album and so he did and it's one of the best one's on that cd. Such passion is shown and it brings much joy to the listeners ears. . I love you ed sheeran.

This song is about what can happen when you bring a baby into the world. I can show the struggled and excitement that develops as the fetus develops into a full grown baby. Ed Sheeran is saying that he will support his family and baby not matter what and that the baby is his world now. The first verse is referring to when he first finds out that his partner is pregnant and his feelings towards it. He is also dreaming about what his baby will look like when they arrive. In the bridge he is committing to the baby and is saying that he will never lie to them and will be there for the future. The chorus is absolutely gorgeous as he is saying that his new family is what matters the most and he is imagining what would happen when the baby arrives. The imagery in this verse is very powerful. He carry's on imagining what his baby will look like until he gets to the last verse. He is then talking about his partner having a miscarriage. This is a very powerful stance which tugs at your heartstrings as you can only imagine what someone Is going through when this happens. It is also beautiful as he is saying that the baby is an angel that was needed in heaven. Very tear jerking with lots of imagery and love.

Its all about a miscarriage, and they start making plans when they find out shes pregnant and he is saying how he will alway be truthful and honest to the baby and how he will always take care of them. But then as it says at the end of the.
"you were just a small bump unborn for 4 months then torn from life, maybe you were needed up their but we're still un-aware as why"
so hes saying the baby was 4 months old then died and he is saying that the baby went up to heaven but they still don't know why the baby was taken away from life.
