Florence + The Machine – Between Two Lungs lyrics
Between two lungs it was released
The breath that carried me
The sigh that blew me forward

'Cause it was trapped
Trapped between two lungs
It was trapped between two lungs
It was trapped between two lungs

And my running feet could fly
Each breath screaming
We are all too young to die

Between two lungs it was released
The breath that passed from you to me
That flew between us as we slept
That slipped from your mouth into mine it crept

Between two lungs it was released
The breath that passed from you to me
That flew between us as we slept
That slipped from your mouth into mine it crept

'Cause it was trapped
Trapped between two lungs
It was trapped between two lungs

Gone are all the days of begging
The days of theft
No more gasping for a breath
The air filled me head to toe
And I can see the ground far below
I have this breathe and I hold it tight
And I keep it in my chest with all my might
I pray to god this breath will last
As it pushes past my lips as I...
Gasp (x3)

Hmm, thought I wrote this already, maybe didn't take. My daughter has cystic fibrosis and this song for me would be the anthem when the cure is found or for those that have passed away so young from the disease, love the song, but it makes me cry. I am going to have the privilege of seeing Florence in Boston on 6/23/11 with my daughter (5th row). Can't wait, but it will be hard for me not to sob during this song, it means that much to me :)

When you meet someone you think is the love of your life, you hold your breath. Hoping it will be the answer to your prayers. But soon you realize you are still holding it. It becaomes trapped in your lungs, your body, your being. You might be free if you leave this love behind. "we are all too young to die. " meaning at the young age most people fall in love, they are really dying inside by giving so much of their breath to this other person. Finally this breath is released when you leave this person and focus on yourself. You can start to feel suffocated in a relationship, so the days of begging for forgiveness, trust, whatever it may be, are gone once you leave this obsession behind and breathe. You always pray you can keep the love going, but eventually you have to gasp for air.

To me this song symbolizes the urge to exhale the unwanted and inhale the beautiful things you've avoided to inhale because what you had inside was too much to bare with.
    The most significant parts:.
"and I keep it in my chest with all my might.
I pray to god this breath will last.
As it pushes past my lips as I.
    Gasp".
This is me gasping for the breathe I need to take live while I exhale the used, unhealthy air. And I pray to god that this new breath I'm taking lasts long.

My daughter has a serious genetic lung disease called Cystic Fibrosis and for me it is the perfect song for this disease and in my mind is the anthem for when the cure is found - which seems to be very close. I will be seeing Florence on 6/23/11 in Boston with my daughter and I hope I can listen to this song without totally sobbing - it is beautiful and means so much to me :)

This song makes me think of my last hours with my nan as she died of pneumonia, she was struggling for breath but I like to think when she died her soul left her body and she was free from struggle. Gone are all the days of begging
    the days of theft
no more gasping for a breath
the air filled me head to toe
and I can see the ground far below.

I think it means that when a person is not in love is just being alive by breathing the air with it's own lungs and lives as an ordinary person but when she falls in love its like the breath and the existance of her partner blows into her like a second soul so suddenly she needs to trapp it between her two lungs so she wouldn't die. It's like she is saying falling in love is like being born to a new world.
