I think that they broke up bcoz of the pain and betrayal. And thought that, that decision would make the feelings disappear. That they are better off with someone they don love enuff to hurt them the way they were hurt before, but realise that loving someone else even a fraction is never gonna replace the love they once had, no matter the pain involved. And wants to know if the other person feels the same way, if they too are tired of living half a life without the one that means more than them than anything else. But are afraid of the answer.

They love eachother but both of them are too scared to say anything because they are unsure that the other person likes them. Like when it says "and it's such a shame.
'cause if you feel the same how am I supposed to know? "
They are scared and fear rejection. I think I'm in the same position. They may know that the other person likes them but they are still unsure. For me, I just have a hard time understanding why someone would ever like me.
The song is just about confusion and fear of rejection.

For me, this song is about a woman in love with another woman, but the other woman is in a relationship. Pretending to be straight because she hasnt come to grips with her own sexuality, she fixates on this other woman, with whom she shares confidences. She is fantasising about the other woman, and wishing she didn't have to fantasise, but knew if the other woman felt the same way about her.

My mom has a problem with acohole and she went missing. We found her, but a day after we found her we had tough love. Everyone said something but me. My older sister said(not in exact word&order) "that she has to go back to counseling for depressing and so do i. I'm only eleven and i'm about to go into middle school and they are going to know what happen to me". I put on facebook the lyrics on YouTube of this song. Also she said(again not in the same order&words)" she put the saddest song on facebook, it even made her cry and I would go into me and my mom's room and play guitar or cry one or the other. I just stared crying my eyes out. Tomorrow she has a screening for rehab and I write her a note about what I feel & why I didn't talk. So this really talks about whats happen in my life so far.
