Green Day – Jesus Of Suburbia lyrics
Part I: Jesus Of Suburbia
I'm the son of rage and love
The Jesus of Suburbia

The bible of none of the above
On a steady diet of
Soda Pop and Ritalin
No one ever died from my
Sins in hell

As far as I can tell
At least the ones that I got away with

And there's nothing wrong with me
This is how I'm supposed to be
In a land of make believe
That don't believe in me

Get my television fix
Sitting on my crucifix
The living room or my private womb
While the Moms and Brads are away
To fall in love and fall in debt
To alcohol and cigarettes
And Mary Jane
To keep me insane
Doing someone else's cocaine

And there's nothing wrong with me
This is how I'm supposed to be
In a land of make believe
That don't believe in me

Part ii: City of the Damned
At the center of the earth
In the parking lot
Of the 7-11 were I was taught
The motto was just a lie

It says home is were your heart is
But what a shame
Cause everyone's heart
Doesn't beat the same
It's beating out of time

City of the dead
At the end of another lost highway
Signs misleading to nowhere
City of the damned
Lost children with dirty faces today
No one really seems to care

I read the graffiti
In the bathroom stall
Like the holy scriptures of a shopping mall
And so it seemed to confess

It didn't say much
But it only confirmed that
The center of the earth
Is the end of the world
And I could really care less

City of the dead
At the end of another lost highway
Signs misleading to nowhere
City of the damned
Lost children with dirty faces today
No one really seems to care

Part iii: I don't care
I don't care if you don't
I don't care if you don't
I don't care if you don't care (4x)

I don't careeeeeee...

Everyone is so full of shit
Born and raised by hypocrites
Hearts recycled but never saved
From the cradle to the grave
We are the kings of war and peace
From Anaheim to the Middle East
We are the stories and disciples of
The Jesus of suburbia

Land of make believe
That don't believe in me
Land of make believe
And I don't believe
And I don't care! (5x)

Part iv: Dearly beloved
Dearly beloved are you listening?
I can't remember a word that you were saying
Are we demented or am I disturbed?
The space that's in between insane and insecure

Oh therapy, can you please fill the void?
Am I retarded or am I just overjoyed
Nobody's perfect and I stand accused
For lack of a better word, and that's my best excuse

Part V: Tales of another broken home
To live, and not to breathe
Is to die, in tragedy
To run, to run away
To find, what you believe

And I leave behind
This hurricane of fucking lies
I lost my faith to this
This town that don't exist
So I run, I run away
To the light of masochists

And I, leave behind
This hurricane of fucking lies
And I, walked this line
A million and one fucking times
But not this time

I don't feel any shame
I wont apologize
When there ain't nowhere you can go
Running away from pain
When you've been victimized
Tales from another broken home

You're leaving...
You're leaving...
You're leaving...
Ah, you're leaving home...

This song introduces the main character of the story, the Jesus of Suburbia. It is split into different parts.
    1. Jesus of Suburbia: We are introduced to a boy calling himself the Jesus of Suburbia, who, living in suburbia itself, who is addicted to drugs and alcohol.
    2. City of the Damned: JOS explains the do nothing, go nowhere theme of his life, simply going to 7-11 with his crew, the "underbelly", where they all drink, do drugs and follow no rules. This is the only place Jesus can be free.
    3. I don't care: Jesus is fed up with his boring life, and doesn't care about it anymore since no one else does. He thinks everyone is horrible where he lives, so he wants to go somewhere where he can live a successful life.
    4. Dearly Beloved: JOS tries to tell everyone and ask them if he's just stupid, retarded, or being an idiot (see what I did there?). No one else responds, cause they don't care. He must ask himself: "Stay or go?"
    5. Tales from another broken home: JOS tells everyone he'd rather be dead than live here, so he leaves his pain and suffering to go to somewhere better, however, it doesn't turn out to be exactly what he thought. This is the most important part of the song because it leads on to the rest of the album.

JOS leaves his home to go somewhere where he can be free. Things start getting real in the next albums song, Holiday.

I don't think anyone fully understands this song. Not here, anyways. Its about this kid, who we only know as Jesus of Suburbia, who is fed up with the way his life is going. The story begins in American Idiot. This is part two, and it continues into Holiday and to the end of the cd.
He's sick of living a pointless life and not feeling like he was worth anything, and you hear his complaints in American Idiot. Then his complaints become anger, and he begins to resent his life. So he packs up and leaves. The next part of the song continues in Holiday.

I am the former Hazeldountlovesbullet. My account was deleted. But I'm back, and explaining the American Idiot (Musical) plot, song by song. First was American Idiot, and now Jesus of Suburbia.
In this song, Johnny and Tunny leave Jingletown for the big city, looking for some fun and life outside television. Will has to stay behind when he discovers that his girlfriend, Heather (who sings the part Dearly Beloved) is pregnant. The story continues on in Holiday.

This song I think is about an average kid that doesn't do "bad" but is also no angel, just immature. Soon gets in trouble probably for something minor nobody hurt. When jailed thinks about the laws and can see the hypocrisy. (part3) Nobody even caring enough to press charges or caring enough to defend him. The finds himself no labeled a "criminal and finds that his words are now worthless in front of a judge. (partIV) Not able to think clear from being in court. He gives in, to their plea bargain offer and admits "guilt " and "asks" the judge for rehab, drug class or whatever else kind of voluntary program, that the court has.(partV) Wanting to get out of jail. He lies and agree to their demands. After being released he discovers that everything he was raised to believe about this country being about " liberty and justice" has become a lie. . He gave himself to the masochists to get clean. He wants to get high and justifies it to himself .What he agreed to in court about wanting therapy is a lie. Everything about the incident is a lie from both sides). He has no shame and will not apologize. He had no "choice" but to "take a slap on the wrist" . Now he is a victim of the system by the system. ("broken home" =courthouse).
