I think rolling girl is about a girl who's frustrated with everything and I think she rolls-tumbling in emotion, thinking it will numb her pain. I think there's a rolling girl/boy in all of us, we just can't let them ruin our life. You should stop rolling, because there's someone out there who loves you enough to give his very life to save you. If you just accept him, you'll be so much happier. Because even if you're a rolling girl/boy, he'll love you. And I think that's a great reason to stop rolling. ;) jerimiah 29: 11.

I personally believe this song is about a girl who constantly feels let down and hurt, the metaphor being falling. Instead of trying to stop falling, she has decided to roll, to go with it and let it wash over her life, but try to make the most of what she has even if it means she will never achieve her dreams or desires. Then again, I may just be projecting, but I don't think I should dwell on that.

I was fairly confident of knowing the meaning of this song. I then found myself reevaluating my reasons for the meaning I had come up with. I realised, looking at the other opinions as well as my own, that this song doesn't have a single true meaning. It matches that side of us, the side that is at some point or another is "rolling". Whether it be with pain, grief, guilt, insecurities, or the struggle to find ourselves. The lyrics are not the only thing that conveyes a message to us. The music itself adds to the tone. The erratic, yet composed piano speaks of something. What it says depends on the person.

I posted my personal belief of this song in the first verse of the song, but I wanted to post it again down here.

I personally think that Miku in Rolling Girl is suffering from depression and self harm. The guy seen in the video is her
depression. The reason being the video is black and white is because she thinks life is bland and boring, hence depression. When she sings the verse "mou ikkai, mou ikkai, watashiwa kyou mo kororgarimasu," or "one more time, one more time, please just let me roll for another day," she means she wants to keep living for just one more day. Throughout the song Miku describes her depression. The verse "roorin gaaru, no nare no hate, todokanai mukuo no iro" translated to "rolling girl, has given it her all," meaning she has tried her very best to live another day. At the end, the boy, otherwise her depression, talks her into thinking that she can't keep living like this and she should just end her life. When Miku finally hugs him, she's gave up and committed suicide.

Keep in mind that some of my translations are not accurate, and this is only my opinion.

I personally think that Rolling Girl is about a girl with depression. I know from personal experience hat when you have depression it can seem as though nothing is ever going to work out, that nothing can help you and you don't even want to put in the effort to cure yourself. This is the case with the Rolling Girl. Life has become bland and boring and just an endless cycle that doesn't seem to have a way out - hence the rolling. She doesn't want to admit that she's feeling down to others, and as a result she's hurting herself by not accepting a treatment. She wants to end her life but can never really bring herself to do so. The boy is obviously close to her, and he knows there's something wrong with her, that she needs help, but she keeps pushing him away. Eventually he manages to reach her, understand her and comfort her.

In short, I think it's the story of a depressed girl who refuses help and denies her problems, harming herself in the process. She "rolls" through each day without any objective, without much hope for the future, as she keeps failing at whatever she does. She wants to die, but eventually is comforted by her guy friend.

There are many meanings to rolling girl.
One, it is about a girl (miku) who is abused so she runs away (in this case, roll) from her problems. But is comforted by an unknown person, at the end.
Another way to look at is that there is a lonely girl who always needs help, but will never accept it from other people.
It also can be percieved that this girl is always expected to be perfect, but she can't, so she hurts herself(scratching herself), and runs away(rolls) hoping to get away from her problems. But in the end she is comforted, and told that she does not need to be perfect.

So this song, as I interpret it, is about a girl who has schiophrenzia and depression. She cant find a way out of her problems, and everytime she tries, she rolls down the hill, most likely meaning shes getting worse and worse, until finally shes too weak to do anything. In the illustraitions you can see that she gets bullied/does self harm (depending on how you see it/ both) and doesnt get help from anyone ("No, I'm fine," still breathing out a sigh/「Mondai nai」, tsubuyaita) which limits her options for happiness. At the end, you can see it all goes in colour (as opposed to the line where she says "Its just too far, the hue she recalls") meaning the colour she was missing in her life, being happiness, was finally back. When the song finally ends, shes held by a boy, and is still. She may be passed out or dead, suicide by suffocation or an attempt (Iki wo, yameru no ima/ I'll stop your breath from seeping out, for now, but it may be "right now" depending on the translation, which means she either dies or doesnt.) The boy is usually depicted as her depression/schiophrenzia, which would follow the death story line, if she succumbed to it. (For translations, I used JubyPhonics lyrics since more people know them, they arent exact translations. If I spelled anything wrong, sorry)

It's about a girl who wants to be famous some day so she isn't forgotten, but knows that this dream is farfetched and says 'don't hold your breath'. So each day is "rolling" by, as in every day doesn't matter because whatever she does is going to be forgotten eventually. In the end, she takes to hurting herself so that she can still feel something, but a good friend of hers is there to sop her from doing anything too bad to herself. Soon enough, the two fall in love and the girl knows her meaning in life is to be with him.

In my opinion, just like most other people, the girl is depressed. When it says "rolling" I think it means that she keeps on going. She tells herself that she will "roll" one more time. This, personally, reminds me of when I was suicidal. I was scared. I told myself when I woke up, "This will be the last time." It's hard to explain, really, but when it mentions the "hill" or whatever, you don't usually roll up hills, you roll down them. The more she tells herself (and everyone else) that shes okay, the worse it gets; her life is going downhill. In the end, I do not believe that the boy was real. Me and some other think it's her mind, or maybe her depression talking. So, basically, in the end, I think she ends up too deep into her depression and commits suicide as the song suggests that the "boy" is taking away her breath. Of course, however, the lyrics are pretty vaugue and it's like a puzzle with a few missing pieces. You have to imagine what the picture would look like with those pieces. Basically, what I'm getting at is that there is no right answer. Not to the listener, anyway. Believe what you want to believe as it makes the song more personal. :)

One of the ways to look at is that there is a lonely girl who is commonly bullied at school, and she always runs (or in this case, rolls) away from her problems.

Another way to look at is that there is a lonely girl who always needs help, but will never accept it from other people.

Yet another possibility is that the girl has a terminal illness, and finds herself shut out by her friends. Even though she is sad and in pain, she wants to continue living one day at a time. "I won't let this breath out," refers to her final breath, and at the end, she finally lets herself die.

The lyrics are vague, but the general idea is a lonely girl with far-off dreams and a history of "failing", and wants to "stop her breathing". At the end she is comforted by an unknown person.

Also, it can be viewed as a song about a girl stuck in an abusive relationship. The "dream" meaning that the guy will change, and with "no problem" abused people will say that what is happening to them is nothing, but it is always later made obvious that it is not true. The story for that would end with someone pulling her out of the relationship.

It also can be percieved that this girl is always expected to be perfect, but she can't, so she hurts herself (scratching herself), and runs away (rolls), hoping to get away from her problems. But in the end she is comforted, and told that she does not need to be perfect.

Another meaning that can be given to that song, is the story of a lonely girl who is tired of her life, as well as of the mistakes that she is making. That results with her starting to hurt herself by rolling. She also seems to push away from her a person who really cares about her. In the end though, she grows to be tired and ready to kill herself. And this is where the boy comes and tells her that it's enough, that she doesn't have to hurt herself anymore.

The video also helps in the meaning of understanding the song, since we can see that indeed Miku is pushing away the boy, by trying to strangle him. In the end after getting hurt, the boy comes to give her an end as she was wishing to. Strangle her back. However he grabs her from the hand and places her in his arms, telling her that he will help her, We'll hold our breath right now.

We have also to add the fact, that she is putting a facade in front of everyone with a smile, hiding her pain inside and hurting herself. The damage and pain that she is inflicting to herself is both mental and physical.

The final reason it could mean is about a girl that is constantly being abused and finally decides to end her life by comitting suicide, but an unknown boy jumps in and tries to save her, but in the end it is too late.

Another way to look at it is that she has VOICES IN HER HEAD, a mental illness. She just wants to roll/run away, however the boy wants to help her because in the end she starts self harming. When she gets hurt, he takes her in his arm and saves her, and she stops rolling.

It could also mean that the boy is her suicidal thoughts, and for the girl 'Rolling' is her trying to escape from him. In the end, she may have given up and killed herself.

This song is definitely about depression. She is the "rolling girl"; people bully her all the time and she keeps making mistakes, and she feels terrible about herself. But every day she keeps going; she climbs up the hill(that is, life), but she keeps rolling down (failing and relapsing) because of her depression and how hopeless she feels in everything.
The boy in the video who's supposed to be her friend is actually a personified version of her depression. We see repeated images of her trying to choke herself but then stopping and continuing to 'roll' on in life. ("One more time, one more time, It seems like something will be seen soon") The boy keeps asking her "are you done yet?" and this can be interpreted as asking her if she is done with life yet.
In the end of the video, we see her lying in his arms limply, which shows that her depression(the boy) has finally persuaded her to stop 'rolling', and gotten the better of her- acting as a friend all the while, but is actually killing her too. In the end, she commits suicide.
This song has struck me very deeply since I've been depressed and suicidal too, and it speaks to me. It's a beautiful yet heartbreaking song.

Here's my personal opinion about Hatsune Miku's song "Rolling Girl." "Rolling Girl" is about a girl that gets bullied and beat up at school every day. Because of this she becomes depressed and suicidal, hoping that one day all of the bullying will come to an end. The fact that she keeps telling herself she will keep "rolling" another day means that she won't suicide yet and that even though she knows that the next school day she will get bullied, she still has hope for that day when everything will end. At the end of the song we see a guy. In my opinion that guy is not a real person, instead, that guy is Miku's spirit of hope which tells her "It's ok now, you can stop breathing."

This is my personal opinion and i don't think that it ended in a happy ending. For me, the last line indicates that Miku committed suicide. But then again this is my opinion so I hope you read and enjoy my version of this awesome song ^.^

I think rolling girl is about a girl who didn't fit into school, so nobody liked her. She kept on geting beat up just because she's different. She starts to think that because she's different, she has no future; so she "rolls". Basically, I think it means that ok, if this lands on me, i'll change. But, the "dice of life" keeps landing on someone else. Someone notices her for once, not because she's a black sheep, shunned, but because she's an actual person. He tells her, "you have a future, it's good to be different, i like you, so please, stop rolling! " then, she gets better after that. My life story's really similar to "rolling girl's". I seemed like I had a lot of friends, but they criticized me on a lot of things, and I turned pessimist. I became lonely, sitting on the hill alone the entire recess/lunch period. But then, in the 4th grade, someone, now my best friend, came and said hi to me, what do you like? Do you like singing? I heard you're good. How about acting? Oh! Lets do an act together for the variety show together! Then, I asked her, "why did you suddenly talk to me on that first day? " when we were writing the script, which was, incidentally, the script for our play in the variety show. Then, she replied, "i was lonely, too, when i was alone. " she's like the boy in the story, seeing the pain, and helping them up. It's literally, life saving.

I believe the meaning behind 'Rolling girl' (my conception), is about a girl who is constantly falling down - or making mistakes. She just wants her life to roll smoothly, therefor explaining the sentence of 'Let me roll once more' - meaning she wants to continue life without so many struggles...
Or, just have a day where she can 'roll through life' smoothly.
I also believe, that 'rolling' is her way of going through life. Because she gets so hurt and upset from herself (as you can see through the music video with all of the bandages etc. found on her body) rather than getting up and walking, she can only roll...And it's more-or-less, her way of getting through life.
She gets deeply upset by her mistakes but she's hesistant of involving others in her life, therefor proving my theory on the sentence where she mentions her sighing.after muttering that there is nothing wrong.

She believes that someone who makes so many mistakes, doesnt deserve to live - or she just might as well end her life, considering they can't just live a normal or 'worthy' life - proving my theory on the sentence of her mentioning 'I'll stop this breath'.
The man in the music video is actually Wowaka (I believe I spelt that right, I apologise if not), but he is actually a very successful and passionate vocaloid creator. I believe his appearance was there to comfort her, and tell her to maybe...'keep singing!'...that type of encouragement, you know-?
(Rest in peace Wowaka, your music will forever live in our hearts).

She bottles up her feelings (linking to the paragraph previously) - explaining why in the 3D-model ver. of the music video, she gets enraged by her environment and destroys her setting around her...Possibly explaining why she might be so desperate with escaping the area.

...I know that was a bit confusing and long, but it's greatly appreciated that you have listened to my personal conception of the song. :)

Have a lovely day, and remember - that even if you must walk, crawl or even roll, always keep moving~!
You'll get where you want eventually.

I think the rolling means is that she isn't giving up on life just yet. She's getting hurt because that's how life is...painful...But at the end the last lyric is I'm gonna stop breathing now (or something like that) when that boy hugged him she died. I think that the boy symbolizes depression. The boy wanted to help her stop all the pain by killing her. I know this is sad but this is how me and some people at the youtube comments interpreted this song.

I think this song is about a girl who thinks bad about herself and starts to get depressed, so she starts to hurt herself to make her feel better. Then she finds someone and he helps her to make her feel better. The song is depressing but catchy. Miku is very sad and depressed in the song. I think it's good that the end is happy. I don't like it when songs never end happily. Miku is saved by Keito. The music video shows her beat up and hurting herself. She looks sad and I am happy she is better at the end. I almost cried when I heard this song at first.

Please read! I took my time to type this and I don't want it to go to waste. Thank you! ^_^
I've always wanted to know the translation to the words to this song, but after reading these meanings, I realized that I don't need to know them, and I can just make up translations according to what I feel like it means, and the official music video on YouTube :) so. What I feel like the song means :( Just so I can easily refer to the people I'm talking about, instead of saying he / she all the time, I'm going to give them fake names. The girl is of course I'm gonna say Miku, I'm gonna say the boy is mat, don't judge the name I gave to the boy, thx)
Miku's going insane and no one accepts her for that. She keeps going crazy, and she needs someone to tell her she's okay and she belongs in the world when nobody accepts her; everyone rejecting her. But then she gets used to it, and when she finds the person who accepts her, she can't accept it because she's lasted for so long being unaccepted, being insane. Mat finds her tries to comfort her, but it's not working since Miku's too insane to be comforted. But, like no one else, Mat stays and tries to help Miku through the whole way, and through time, she's finally able to calm down, and she's finally able to feel accepted by at least one person. She loves Mat, as he stayed with her when no one else would. Mat is happy that he was able to help Miku, as if no one was able to help her, there would be one less person in the world and Mat hates that feeling.

Thanks for reading this meaning! ^_^ I hope you liked it!

I personally think this is about a girl (Miku) who gets bullied at home and at school and she has had enough. She hurts herself and a boy tries to help her but she doesn't want help. She instead rolls from her problems and finally has had enough and fights back. Though she fails he comforts her again. He fails again. Then one day she tries to kill herself but he stops her and then it's just a sweet happy ending! That's just what I personally think.
