Justice – On'n'on lyrics
Before day break there were none
And as it broke there was one
The moon, the sun, it goes on'n'on

The winter battle was won
The summer children were born
And so the story goes on'n'on

Come woman if your life beats
Those we buried with the house keys
Smoke and feather where the fields are green
From here to eternity

Come woman in your own time
Far far far from the virgin vine
Rising up from the dead leaves
Come back to me

Oh, sing your favorite song
Left to tears and dreams
It goes and then on

A vessel in the bloodline
The thirteenth zodiac sign
A stitch in time it goes on'n'on

Someday the grapes will be wine
And someday you will be mine
And so the story goes on'n'on

Come woman if your life beats
Those we buried with the house keys
Smoke and feather where the fields are green
From here to eternity

Come woman in your own time
Far far far from the virgin vine
Rising up from the dead leaves
Come back to me

Oh, sing your favorite song
Left to tears and dreams
It goes and then on

Oh, sing your favorite song
Left to tears and dreams
It goes and then on

That which was put in the ground
Will someday come back around
From dust to dust it goes on'n'on

Before daybreak there were none
And as it broke there was one
And still the story goes on'n'on

The meanings above seem to miss the very clear allusions to death imo
'buried with the house keys' - as if there was a previous time where she had keys, buried like dead.
'Far far far from the virgin vine ,Rising up from the dead leaves' - This seems self explanatory but as we said she was buried and dead. From the death comes new life.
'Oh, sing your favorite song Left to tears and dreams' - This line only really makes sense if she is dead elsewise why would we be brought to tears singing her favorite song.
'That which was put in the ground Will someday come back around' - This is again a story of how life comes back around from death, even if its not the same things repeat (On'n'On)
'Before daybreak there were none And as it broke there was one' - Lastly I'm not as certain on this, but it marks me as visiting a grave. Before daybreak there were none, but as it broke someone paid a visit. From a romantic stand point if the woman left it would be before there was 2 but now there is 1. This song does not do that.

I'm glad to hear other interpretations, but I can't see the above others more than this. The video is kinda a strange motion vanitas (art reflecting excess and mortality) and the lyrics less than subtly use the word dead. The song itself is focused on how things come around but you can tell from between the lines someone is lost. And he mournfully waits for something, almost hoping that she will come back, but almost knowing it won't be quite the same cuz the story goes On'n'On

Longing lust love as the time ticks on and someday that love will come and it will end but it will be real and there will be more. To the lives of the lovers whom untied create life. The line about wine and being someday mine makes me think he is patiently waiting for her to come into his life. This song is awesome. Theres so much to write but the little I did covers a spectrum and others have done so too so eventually you will have your own definition of this song :) ich liebe mein engel bis zum ende durch ziet und alles.

He's talking about his love from before time was time. When before day break there were none. Talking about the sun, the moon and things in the universe go on even without us. We went from a cold lifeless winter to the warm summers where all life is awake. Come woman if your life beats, the life we buried with the old house keys - talking about an old story, old love with many histories. Come in your own time (if you're ready to be that woman now, come be with me), far from the virgin vine - no longer young or naive, a grown woman with wisdom. Rising up from the dead leaves, come back to me. Its a beautiful story of trying to woo a long lost lover back to your reality. I love this song.
