Lady Gaga – Applause lyrics
I stand here waiting for you to bang the gong
To crash
the critic saying, "is it right or is it wrong?"
If only fame had an iv, baby could I bear
Being away from you; I
found the vein, put it in here

I live for the applause, applause
, applause
I live for the applause-plause, live for the applause-plause
Live for the way that you
cheer and scream for me
The applause, applause, applause

Give me that thing that I love
(Turn the lights on)
Put your hands up, make 'em touch
(Make it real loud)
Give me that thing that I love
(Turn the lights on)
Put your hands up, make 'em touch
(Make it real loud)

A-P-P-L-A-you-S-E
Make it real loud
A-P-P-L-A-you-S-E
Put your hands up, make 'em touch, touch
A-P-P-L-A-you-S-E
Make it real loud
A-P-P-L-A-you-S-E
Put your hands up, make 'em touch, touch

I've overheard your theory
"Nostalgia's for geeks"
I guess sir, if you say so
Some of us just like to read

One second I'm a kunst
Then suddenly the kunst is me
Pop culture was in art
Now, art's in pop culture in me

I live for the applause, applause, applause
I live for the applause-plause, live for the applause-plause
Live for the way that you cheer and scream for me
The applause, applause, applause

Give me that thing that I love
(Turn the lights on)
Put your hands up, make 'em touch
(Make it real loud)
Give me that thing that I love
(Turn the lights on)
Put your hands up, make 'em touch
(Make it real loud)

A-P-P-L-A-you-S-E
Make it real loud
A-P-P-L-A-you-S-E
Put your hands up, make 'em touch, touch
A-P-P-L-A-you-S-E
Make it real loud
A-P-P-L-A-you-S-E
Put your hands up, make 'em touch, touch

Touch, touch
Touch, touch, now

I live for the applause, applause, applause
I live for the applause-plause, live for the applause-plause
Live for the way that you cheer and scream for me
The applause, applause, applause

Give me that thing that I love
(Turn the lights on)
Put your hands up, make 'em touch
(Make it real loud)
Give me that thing that I love
(Turn the lights on)
Put your hands up, make 'em touch
(Make it real loud)

A-P-P-L-A-you-S-E
Make it real loud
A-P-P-L-A-you-S-E
Put your hands up, make 'em touch, touch
A-P-P-L-A-you-S-E
Make it real loud
A-P-P-L-A-you-S-E
Put your hands up, make 'em touch, touch

She's stated in some interviews that she wrote this while letting her hip heal after breaking it during her Born This Way Ball and ignoring it in favor of letting her fans see her in concert like they wanted. She was so focused on her adoring fans and wanted nothing more than to make the people that went to her concerts feel like they were loved and belonged. So while he was healing she started writing "Artpop" and eventually was able to shoot the music video for this song. She lives not for the money or the fame or the acceptance of others, but for us, her fans, and so she wrote "Applause" to tell us that even though she may not always be in the spotlight or famous, she will always be there for her fans. She's said that while shooting the music video she started crying because it felt so good to start performing again after her long recovery period and so she smeared the face paint/makeup that has come to be recognized as the "Applause" makeup. It wasn't meant to happen but it did, she left it in because it's art, maybe not to all but to some. This song, not to mention the other tracks on the album, are her way of saying that she won't let the industry stop her from doing what she loves, making music and art for her fan base, and that she loves us just as much as we do.

Oh no, I know. I said her stuff has been blah since The Fame Monster minus You & I, as in excluding. You & I is a work of art, loved it. <3
I think Gaga will go down as our Generations all-star, and no matter what record sales say I think she'll be remembered far more than Nsync or the Spice Girls, however Idk, It's just like her stuff all sounds the same/generic now. Which sucks =(

Applause (Latin applaudere, to strike upon, clap) is primarily the expression of approval by the act of clapping, or striking the palms of the hands together, in order to create noise. Audiences are usually expected to applaud after a performance, such as a musical concert, speech, or play. In most western countries, audience members clap their hands at random to produce a constant noise; however, it tends to synchronize naturally to a weak degree. As a form of mass nonverbal communication, it is a simple indicator of the average relative opinion of the entire group; the louder and longer the noise, the stronger the sign of approval.
The custom of applauding may be as old and as widespread as humanity, and the variety of its forms is limited only by the capacity for devising means of making a noise (e. G., stomping of feet or rapping of fists or hands on a table). Within each culture, however, it is usually subject to conventions.
The ancient Romans had a set ritual of applause for public performances, expressing degrees of approval: snapping the finger and thumb, clapping with the flat or hollow palm, waving the flap of the toga, for which the emperor Aurelian substituted handkerchiefs (orarium) that he had distributed to the Roman people.[1] In Roman theatre, at the close of the play, the chief actor called out "Valete et plaudite!", and the audience, guided by an unofficial choregus, chanted their applause antiphonally. This was often organized and paid for.[2].
Similarly, a claque (French for "clapping") was an organized body of professional applauders in French theatres and opera houses who were paid by the performer(s) to create the illusion of an increased level of approval by the audience.
Crowd applause taken at the Liverpool Arabic Arts Festival 2006.
In Christianity, customs of the theatre were adopted by the churches. Eusebius [3] says that Paul of Samosata encouraged the congregation to applaud his preaching by waving linen cloths (οθοναις), and in the 4th and 5th centuries applause of the rhetoric of popular preachers had become an established custom. Applause in church eventually fell out of fashion, however, and partly by the influence of the quasi-religious atmosphere of the performances of Richard Wagner's operas at the Bayreuth Festspielhaus, the reverential spirit that inspired this soon extended back to the theatre and the concert hall.

She feels like she's losing her stuff so she's trying to get a new image that way she gets popular again. She was good before she started acting crazy I think the song is good but the video was just plan dumb. Lady Gaga is going artistically crazy and not in the good way. She needs to not be high when she thinks of the ideas for her videos like no joke. A fricken bird cage seriously Gaga? Seriously? Get off dem drugs and go to fricken rehab.
