Lamb Of God – Ghost Walking lyrics
1, 2, 3

Do you remember when word was bond, a fleeting promise in the light of the dawn.
Barren December under a falling sky, the end of days and a reason to die.

Obliteration never looked so divine.
Holding your breath for the moment in time
You lived through hell, now you're trying to die
The skin is healed but you're bleeding inside
Shots fired just to numb the pain
There's no one left to save

Night blind on the shining path
Ghost walking in the aftermath

Hypnotized, 60 cycle hum
The broken cadence of a distant drum
21 to 1 I'm liking the odds
A blood junkie with a lightning rod
A dirty rig and a heavenly nod
And still you wind up nowhere

Obliteration never looked so divine
Holding your breath for the moment in time
You lived through hell, now you're trying to die
The skin is healed but you're bleeding inside
Shots fired just to numb the pain
There's no one left to save
There's no one left to save
There's no one left to save

Now
You chase the dragon but it follows you home
Now
You lost the fever dreams and broken hope

Desolation never looked so divine
Promise yourself for the very last time
You lived through hell, now you're trying to die
The skin is healed but you're bleeding inside
Shots fired just to numb the pain
There's no one left to save
There's no one left to save
Ohhhh there's no one left
A fever dream
There's no one left to save
Shots forever end the pain
There's no one left to save

Please look at the music video before you pertain it to any type of drug on the market. The music video depicts a man who is tasked with the mission from his rebellious group to stop a nuclear weapon unhinging in a post apocalyptic world. "bury december" could possibly reference too the time that "armageddon is suppose to unravel, "bury" could either mean it has passed or it's nothing to worry about because it never happened. This could also depict that there is a world living in an anarchy once again because after whatever apocalypse came and passed a man recreated a strongly and stricted governed world again.

The song is quite obviously about heroin. "a dirty rig and a heavenly nod"- a rig, or point is slang for the needle used, and after a good bit of heroin, one experiences the "nods", or nodding your head due to the drugs effects, many users find this experience the best, because it happens after you get pretty high. "holding your breath for that moment in time". Probably refers to the head rush experienced almost immediately after using. "shots fired" probably refers to the slang term "shooting", or maybe a reference to his alcohol addiction. And almost anytime you are "chasing a dragon". It is referring to heroin use.

This song was inspired by Vietnam vets & the struggles of coming back from a pointless war & the heroin addiction that followed them home. Randy spoke on this in an interview. After reading his quotes i played this song for my uncle who experienced the same issue & it brought him to tears.

    F. Why do people usually relates songs with drugs. Yes, it could b drugs but I believe most of the time the words use in a song, like this is one is just describing a person who is a loser "junkie" who doesn't want to exist in this world "obliteration" who has survive hard times, like war, tho, other not dangerous situation in life make him feel he doesn't want to exist, like love, he is phisically ok but his heart is broken"the skin is healed but your bleeding inside" he/she wants a relationship but no matter how many time he/she has try it just doesn't work or progress. He or she keeps hurting, pushing away this other person "lightning rod". Well there is more I would like to add but I would stop here.
*Remember music is a great way to let your emotions out, you can do this by directly stating ur feelings or using other words to let the listener decode it.

The song could be related to blood junkie, otherwise why would they mention it, but I really think its about randys alcohol problems, he's saying that he never got out of it, its a ghost walking behind him, he went through the hardest part (accepting the problem and stopped drinking) but he feels like dying inside, the shots fired could mean anything, he probably is addicted to something else now (i heard he smokes a lot now). I guess the only one that knows what it is randy, anyway great song!

I think its talking about the big changes happening that were all experiencing and how its sometimes hard to handle and heroin is used literally and/or metaphorically to numb the pain caused by dealing with these changes. Metaphorically I think it means war. And how there are "end of the world" symbols occurring everyday and labor is no longer "won" its dreaded because its so mandatory every second in this collapsing economy. Just walking about killing ourselves over these changes in time.

Some heroin reference like "a dirty rig. " addicts sometimes refer to a syringe and needle as a rig. A "heavenly nod. " a nod is a dream like state where your head drops every once in a while. It happens when your on opiates. And "you chase the dragon, but it follows you home. " chasing the dragon is trying to reach a high that you once had, but because of tolerance, your unable to get it again. The song may be about someone struggling with a heroin addiction, or its all symbolizing something else. I guess only randy will know what it really means.

Really, there's no telling what it means, only randy will ever truly know. He's written a lot of songs about alcohol addiction, so it could be a reference to drinking away his woes ("shots fired just to numb the pain") and sobering up but having that addiction always haunting him afterwards ("ghost walking in the aftermath"). Then again, he's written many songs about either politics, war, apocalypse, and environmental issues (as the palaces burn, now you've got something to die for, contractor and reclamation being some examples), so the lyrics may encompass and entail some of that subject matter. Whichever way, awesome friggin song, can't wait for the album to come out.
