Les Miserables – Who Am I? lyrics
He thinks that man is me!
He knew him at a glance!
That stranger he has found
This man could be my chance
Why should I save his hide
Why should I right this wrong
When I have come so far
And struggled for so long?
If I speak, I am condemned
If I stay silent, I am damned
!
I am the master of hundreds of workers
They all look to me
How can I abandon them, how can they live
If I am not free
?
If I speak, I am condemned
If I stay silent, I am damned
!

Who am I?
Can I condemn this man to slavery
Pretend I do not see his agony
This innocent who bears my face
Who goes to judgement in my place
Who am I?
Can I conceal myself for evermore?
Pretend I'm not the man I was before?
And must my name until I die
Be no more than an alibi?
Must I lie?
How can I ever face my fellow man?
How can I ever face myself again?
My soul belongs to God, I know
I made that bargain long ago
He gave me hope, when hope was gone
He gave me strength to journey on

[He steps in front of the court]

Who am I?
Who am I?
I am Jean Valjean!

[He unbuttons his shirt to reveal the number tattooed to his chest.]

And so Javert, you see it's true,
That man bears no more guilt than you!
Who am I?
24601!

This one those dilmias people face based on opinions of students of music tend bring up in a way people like Michael are this beings out an area of music where someone is summing up pros and gons how things about how make the big choices that you have make is setting up a style of music where you learn about how lead characters the creates over what is happing the music is becoming like the character because wh Claude is writing about is something about is what happens when Claude can see his self in this piece of music

This song is the main male lead (Valjean) having a discussion with himself contemplating weather he should turn himself in to the police to stop an innocent man going to jail or weather he should let that man go to jail so he can continue his life and make sure his workers are still in a job but in the end he chooses the lesser of 2 evils and turns himself in to help the innocent man.

I love this song, and the musical. It makes him honest, and a better man. : ') Singing this song doesn't bring tears to my eyes like I dreamed a dream does, but I think this is a well written song. Watch Les Miserables and listen to the real person sing it. He does great! : D I hope you enjoy these songs as much as I do because I'm a Les Mis Fan Girl. ;)
