Paramore – The Only Exception lyrics
{Verse 1}
When I was younger
I saw my daddy cry
And curse at the wind
He broke his own heart
And I watched
As he tried to reassemble it
And my momma swore that
She would never let herself forget

And that was the day that I promised
I'd never sing of love
If it does not exist

But darlin'

{Chorus}
You are the only exception!
You are the only exception!
You are the only exception!
You are the only exception
!

{Verse 2}
Maybe I know, somewhere
Deep in my soul
That love never lasts
And we've got to find other ways
To make it alone
Or keep a straight face

And I've always lived like this
Keeping a comfortable, distance
And up until now
I had sworn to myself that I'm content
With loneliness

Because none of it was ever worth the risk, well

{Chorus}
You are the only exception
You are the only exception
You are the only exception
You are the only exception

{Instrumental and Drums}

{Bridge}
I've got a tight grip on reality, but I can't
Let go of what's in front of me here
I know you're leaving in the morning, when you wake up
Leave me with some kind of proof it's not a dream
Ooh Ooh
...

{Chorus}
You are the only exception
You are the only exception
You are the only exception
You are the only exception
[X2]

And I'm on my way to believing
Oh, and I'm on my way to believing
×

I think it's about a girl who always thought when she would fall in love, it would end like her parents. So she thinks she just won't love anyone then. So, she finally thinks it over, and finds out "Ya know. I really love him. And if he feels the same, why would there be any problem?" So she decides she will do what she wants to do. And that is love the one person she wants to love, and she will not follow her parents.

Simply. She saw her parents lose love. And she'd never sing about it if it didn't exist. She's tired of being lonely but only one person is worth taking the risk. But deep down she thinks that love doesn't exist. And she knows that once they're done hanging out. When she wakes up he'll be gone. Because that's simply how guys are. But now she's on her way to believing that love exists b/c maybe he didn't leave in the morning.

I am 61 years old and basically I am the daddy in that song. I have cursed, cried, and there is no way to reassemble a heart once it is thoroughly and deeply broken. This song made me cry the first time I heard it because it is so true. I'm keeping a straight face and making it but it isn't the same. The rest of you -- don't settle for false promises, pretty faces who are only looking out for themselves and can't understand what you are about -- but when that one exception comes around grab and hold onto it/her/him until your knuckles turn white. It's the only way to make it through and even then it won't be without heartbreak, just a little better because you lived true to yourself.

Obviously, something happened when she was younger that made the girl not want to have anything to do w/love, in fear that she would undergo the same situation. And though she believes that love is not worth the pain, she finds that one person for whom she's willing to give it a shot, hence "the only exception." and because of him, she's on her way to believing in love (:

I think this song is about a girl who witnessed both her parents suffering from a divorce. "He broke his own heart..." which I think means he had an affair with another woman. As the girl grew up, she thought of love as something that wasn't important and something that would only hurt her. But, a guy came into her life and changed it. He made her realize that things aren't as bad as she might think they are.

To me, this song has a very special meaning to me because my father also left my mother and I along with my two siblings alone for another woman. Things haven't been great between us and right when I was ready to tell him my feelings and thoughts, he looses it and screams at me. I was afraid of him, I thought he was going to hit me. But, he said something that bothered me so much. He said, "I've been very patient with you. Get over it. I made a mistake, I know, but get over it." I went mad. I cried and screamed because he didn't know that what he was saying was not so easy to do in real life.

I love this song. This song reminds me of me. Her mom and dad just broke up I guess
and mow they're miserable and she realizes that if she fell in love, she knew that some one was not going to last long with her so to avoid that she never fell in love but there is this guy that she loves and when she realizes that she's still trying to kee a distance from him and he starts to realize that he loves her but she's still catuos about being head over heels then finally she's going to give love a chamcce that he's the only excetion. The reason y it rindse of me because I thought love never existed and that I was never going to find someone that cares about me till finally I gave love a chance and now I'm a happy12 year old with s changed life now.

This is such a inspiring love song. Against all past odds & belief systems Love can conquor! Don't we all love that as cornball as it seems?! The cliche themes are always the most relative. And this is no Exception -S'cuse the pun!
I love this song heaps at the moment cos it's reflective of how I feel about this new guy in my life right now. After having not had anyone for ten years & "keepin a comfortable distance" from my last failed relationship in which I thought there was love, I didn't think I was going to find the real thing. But was "Content with the Loneliness". And then Dan came along & an exceptionally amazing thing happened. We fell in love. Real love! Its been 6mths & 'the Fairy Dust is still in flight'. I'm ever reminded of how I much I love him by songs like this one! And I relish in playing it on my guitar singing it over & over!

Nthis song means so much to me right now. I feel like I'm going throgh exactly what this song s about. I've got parents who aren't together, I'm still somewhat fresh out of an unhealthy two year long relationship with a person who I honestly thought was
the one. When I was out of it I couldn't help but think that love did not exist if what I had wasn't love. Then I met an amazing girl who lives in Texas (I'm all the way in Nebraska) and heard this song around the same time and I knew it couldn't be a coincidence. This song gives me new hope that a thing called love does exist whether or not sometimes we think it does, and maybe I'm a fool for thinking that but I won't deny how I feel for this girl.

    * I think the meaning of this song was when her parents got divorced when she was a young girl., he always saw her parents getting quarrels.
She was upset, she got nothing to think that her parents married without love.,
furthermore the song lyrics telling that when he was inlove,., he begun to believe in love, her young thoughts was there in her whole life but he met his guy and now she knows that love is existing, and the scene she saw on her family is just that her parents are not really for each other. Love make her believe everything in her life :)

I think this song is about how when she was young her parents might of divorced and from a young age she got the impression love is none existant and as she gets older she still has that in mind yet she finds something that night be love or the illusion of love whitch is her only exeption so I think this song is about a battle with herselfs and how she feels about another and what she was immesed in as a child.

I believe it's about a girl who watched her parents love fall through. She's petrified at the fact that it could happen to her, so she's "content on loneliness". Then a guy comes along, and she builds feelings for him, and eventually falls in love with him. She's saying he's the only exception because she believes that there love will make it through everything, and he's the only one who can change her perspective on love. (:

I think it is about a teenage girl that thought that she would never find love, and then she meets a boy and she really knows how much she loves him and he feels the same way about her. She thinks he's going to leave in the morning and she tries to make her self forget about that thought but she can't so she just tries to believe something else.

It about a girl who saw her parents marriage end. So I the she started never believing in love because of that. And now everytime she likes somebody she tries to push them away and make herself think that she's happy being alone because of what happened to her parents. So now it's kinda like with all these rules she made up for herself to not get so close to a guy. But, this guy is different and he's the only exception to all her rules. And she knows that he is gonna leave in the morning, but she's saying to him like, your the one and she dosen't want this whole thing to be a dream so before you leave, leave sometime to remind her that it was real and not a dream.

You will never know the true meaning of it until love ignites you. You know what. Funny it is at first for a girl to fall in love to someone so deeply that it didn't matter to her what people would say about her and about having him for the rest of her life. I am glad to say to anybody and to accept this reality wholeheartedly that I fall in love to a lesbian. I loved him so much! If there is an exception to refer to. This is it! Riccie is the only exception. Kaya. To everybody out there. Don't be afraid to show the world how much you love the person, may she/he be unexceptional to somebody's eyes.

This song is about a girl who has been hurt not only by past loves/boyfriends, but by every day life as a teenager or younger kid growing up. She is afraid to let herself feel again after being hurt so many times but has met a guy who makes her feel as if he is worth the risk to open herself, her heart up to accept that love really does exist and that there is reason to believe that you can love someone without being hurt.

    Love and soul mates a
Can be two different things. People don't realize that it sometimes takes more than a lifetime to find or reunite with your soul mate. Sometimes you find each other but the circumstances in your present life times have gone in different directions. Some say if you find your souk mate then you have to be with them no matter what. That's not always the case. Depending of the kind of person you are. If you just understand that you will have you chance again. Your soul never dies.

This song is so beautiful.! I love it sooo much. This is my new favorite song since I first heard it:)). It reminds me of my childhood and every time I hear this song it takes me back to when times were tough. I dedicate this song to a special boy who changed my life and even though he broke my heart 6 times I will forever love him and I always promised myself that I would never love again but finally I took a chance and moved on and now I'm glad I did:) but he will always be in my heart as my first love.

I love this song! J Chris M. Manlapig, this song will forever be dedicated to you. I know you let me go to give me a chance to live my life w/o hang ups. You taught me how to be patient and not to be selfish. Your wife is lucky to have you and I believe that the time we spent together is all worth it- I learned from you, you learned from me as well. You were there when I needed a friend and I will always be there for you all the time. God speed! We can do this. I can move on and live my life but I will never forget that I once fell inlove with the right person at the wrong time.

I, like some others, believe this song is about a little girl who saw her father cry because he just admitted to his wife that he’d been screwing around on her. He loves his wife but he screwed up. They don’t split but her mom will never forget that the man she loved and married betrayed her. Hey, kids do what they see their role models do. She took the lesson from her mom that all men are dogs and there is no such thing as true love.

I think I've met a girl who feel the same way as in this song. This girl I've met, before knowing me, she doesn't believe that love can last forever. When I confess that I like her more than just a friend, she said to me, "I'm also started to like you but after sometime, you won't like me as much as you do now. Your feeling will just, eventually fade away. " I like her, I love her. And I'm so happy that she too, feel the same way as I am. But we didn't have the chance to be in a love relationship. Well, it's because of one reason that makes it impossible for us to be together. She also had mentioned about this song to me and she said she doesn't like this song. Haha. But now, she started to love this song. Because of me (. In tears.). I think she is in her way to believe that love can last forever. Maybe because, I am her only exception? :)
What I learnt from her. Is that love is not just about possession (to be with the one you love), it's also about appreciating each other. I think that is how love can last forever.
    Thanks for the song Paramore!

She has watched people (such as her parents) fall out of love. Now she believes that love isn't real. She promises that she won't "sing of love" and get her hart ripped out. But then she meets this guy who she really likes. And he "is the only exeption" to her promise. He's helping her believe that there is such thing as love. She even states: "i'm on my way to believing. "
This is a really cute song, by the wayxd.

The singer talks about watching her dad experience heartbreak and tells about how she wouldn't let herself get too close to someone but the boy she is singing about is the only one she has allowed herself to fall for. You know what they say "love is giving someone the power to destroy you but trusting them not to" or "he is the only one that has enough of me to break me"

It's about a girl/guy who possibly watched a figure in her/his life go through terrible heartbreak and it made her/him turn her/his back on love. She/he stays true to herself/himself by staying out of love until she/he meets a special guy/girl and breaks that oath and falls in love. She/he tries to fight against her/his feelings but ends up failing. She/he finally admits defeat and allows herself/himself.

Someone is the only exception. And now it's saying this message is too short, so i'll just say this: love definitely does exist, and the most important love of all is and was god's love for all mankind when he sacrificed his son, jesus christ. So the lyrics to this song really sadden me, since it seems that her whole world revolves around this "only exception" and he will decide whether or not she will believe in love. Sad because there is a love so true and real and pure that she obviously hasn't experienced, but if she had she would never doubt the existence of love.

To me the only exception means alot. It proves that loves depends on you and the person that you're with. You have to have the same priorites, wants, and needs because if you can't agree on things then its gonna be purely phyiscal attraction and more fighting than anything. Love should be about true strong emotional feelings for one another. Riches, fancy clothes and people who don't matter shouldn't be allowed to affect and/or ruin your relationship with the ones you care about and love. Relationships shouldn't have lies, deceit, and/or hidden feelings in them.

A girl who thought she would never fall in love, and that she would never sing about it, because according to her parents: love doesn't exist. As she watches her parnets fight and fall out of love she too began to believe that there really was no love. When she does fall in love, she sings about. That one person she falls in love is the only exception. That love can have exceptions. :)

She swore to herself that she would never fall in love but she met this guy who she couldn't stay away from and she tried to block her feelings out but couldn't because they're so strong she couldn't hold back she loved him too much and she will only make the exception of love to him.

Nothing could be more deep than this song. Every time I hear this song I think of only my true love. I never believed in love, myself. But love is unbeatable, it's unconquerable. It always wins, whether you want it to or not. If you have never believed in love or thought you'd never give it a chance and you were proven wrong, you know what this song means. Once you find that true love, happily ever after is shortly to follow.

I think that she is feeling like since her parents' relationship ended up so awful that she thinks that this is the only end to love. So, she promises herself that she would never be so foolish to actually believe in love, because she thought that all it would end up as a heartbreak, and she didn't feel like that was worth the risk. But then, she meets a guy that changes her mind. He is the only exeption to the promise that she made to herself.

I thinks it's about people who are in love with someone, but they are scared if their love will end badly. So in this case this girl is scared that her love will end badly like her parents. She is scared, intill she realizes that he is the only exception. This probaly will happen to a lot of people. The decsion if you really love this person. It's hard, but listen to your heart and it will guide you the way. Mabey you like a person, but you have a hard time trusting people because you've had past experiences. Mabey it's parents getting divorced or someone didtrusting you and you endded up so hurt, you struggled. That for me in my meaning. But one day you'll find someone who is the only exception.

It seems to me that although most of you are correct in your interpretations, that it might go a bit deeper, granted this will also show some insight into myself as well. It seems like it is about love itself, about how it isn't something rational, about how we have very little control over it. Granted I do still believe that we can choose, but I know that when I had the choice, it would have been very difficult to choose against love. It can find us in strange places with strange people, I like that because it isn't a I'm in love and it is wonderful, it is questioning it a little. It has the broken family because it needed a reason to question and it is a good one, those things stick.

Its about a girl who's parents break up and that teaches her to believe that love doesn't exist. That's what she's always thought, you love someone then they leave, so whats the point? But then she meets someone she really does love and says she wants it to be real but fears that as soon as she thinks it is real he will leave, like what happened with her parents.

It's about a girl who grew up with not the best example of love, so witnessing what happened between her parents, she doesn't believe love exists. She's afraid to let someone in close enough to hurt her because she feels they won't be around for long anymore, she feels live never lasts anyway, so why grow attached to someone who will only end up leaving. But this good guy comes along and she questions why she. Pushes him away maybe love does exist for some, she shouldn't let one failing relationship effect her mentality and way she thinks of all her relationships.

I think it's about a girl who kept herself away from people, in a spiritual and emotional manner. Someone who never let herself be seen by other people, because she was afraid that she would be hurt. But someone came along and let her sun shine again, let the breeze blow through the cracks of her broken heart in a soothing, welcoming manner. And letting her believe. "i've always lived like this, keeping a comfortable distance. Up until now i had sworn to myself that i'm content with loneliness; because none of it was ever worth the risk. "

She saw her family get ripped apart in a split second and both her mom and dad had difficulties and struggles because of this. So, she convinced herself that if she fell in love she would be doing the same thing as her parents and it would only result in a disaster. She believed that. But then, some guy turns up and changes her perspective towards love and alothough she is still hesitant, she slowly begins to except it as it is. She tries to convey in the song that she wouldn't have taken the first steps if it weren't for him getting her to leave her doubts behind. He is the only one who could have done it, nobody else. That is why he is, the only exception.

It's about finding that one person that no matter how hard you try to run from, you just cannot, because they're your everything. Relationships are scary. You see your friends, family members, etc struggle, and depending on how much they struggle, convince yourself that there's no way you could possibly find something of a real "level", ya know? I have always considered this song to be the admittance that no matter how bad it seems, and nobody what you've witnessed, there's always that one person who can change everything for you.

Basically, she sees the struggle of her parents and how much it hurts to fall out of love that she swore not to love in fear that she too would get hurt. However even though deep in her heart she believes love doesn't exist she still believes that there is one person that might be able to change her opinion of love all together and believes she has found the person that can do that for her so she slowly starts to believe in love again.

She didn't believe in love because her dad got hurt when she was younger so she only believed that people could get hurt until she met him, so he is 'the only exception'. She has always thought that she would be lonely because she never thought that she could find the right person, and she thought that she would always get hurt by people until she met him and realised that it can be different with some people, and he is the only exception, because she trusts him. The song itself is based on trust and how hard it can be to trust someone and when you think everything is over and you are really lonely but then they come into your life and you can trust them with anything and everything because you know that they will never hurt/break you.

Something really bad happened and her mom and dad freaked out over it and it was like a crisis for the whole family and she realized that she wants to be safe and "never sing of love that does not exisat" so she does. But then she falls in love and realizes that songwriting is a way to express crushes and love so she writes a song about her crush and realizes that a lot of times one of the best ways to deal with relationships and crushes is songwriting.

This song is abut a girl who saw her parents lose love and it caused so much pain for all her family and she swore that she would never sing of love if it did not exsist. Though she clearly got tired and upset about being lonely and met a guy, who she loved dearly and he was her only exception. She had found love and she has let herself sing about it for he is the only exception!

When she was just a child, she had a traumatic experience with her mother and father. According to the song, they were basically having marriage and love issues. So, this experience made her basically afraid of love. So, she promised herself she would never forget, and never sing about love unless she was sure it was real. But, she's not sure that she loves this guy yet, and she's singing about him, so he's her only exception to her promise.

Not matter what other fix idea we have from the past about love, you can not make that fix idea be the rule that willl guide you for life until you yourself experienced it. Give love a chance. We have to experience pain so we learn that we don't want to cause pain to others because, pain hurts and not pleaseant. But it is needed for us to become who we are as long as we don't cause the same type of pain.

She experienced her parents relationship falling apart and from then on, the tried to protect herself from having that same experience happen to her. Then one day she finds the perfect guy and lets her defences down. She knows that he isn't going to stick around but she is happy that she got to experience love and is on her way to believing that love isn't such a bad and tragedy bound thing.

What I think of the only exception is that she was keeping her heart locked up for herself and only herself to protect so that she will never be hurt like her parents. But then she felt something pure, something undescribable about this one person she met, she couldn't help but to start opening up to him slowly, until she knows that she is truly ready to break down her wall and give her heart away to someone else. There were others who were great to be around but she knew from the beginning she was going to protect her heart, her love, but the only exception came.

It describes my life and how I've been hurt so much by my parents divorcing and being left alone with a mother who outwardly was very unhappy and overwhelmed to be raising us kids alone. I didn't ever want to face that for my life so I swore off ever getting married. However, when I found my fiance I was able to let him in and risk the pain because he is worth the risk. "the only exception". It's our song and we both love it.

This song is about a girl who watched her parents lose the love they had for each other. & as she was around it all the time she slowly started to build up a wall. She made sure that no one could ever love her, & that she would never love anyone else because she thought she was just protecting herself from getting hurt. Then someone came along & took her heart & fell in love & realized she didn't want to fight it anymore.

This song is about a girl or see's her parents love fall apart so when she tries to fall in love she just gives up because to her, love is something that will not and never exist. She was influenced by her parents and will never get close to anyone because she thinks that they will eventually leave just like everyone else. When she finally falls for someone she realizes that love is still there just it is hard to find. She know that there is no point in sitting around hoping and dreaming of love, she know that he is the "only exception" and will not wait for him. She then knows that love does exist you just have to look deep down into ones soul to find it.

Its like this, we all see things that are out there like our parents not making it together, or like me all the men in my life are pigs. My parents never were happy together. I thought I was going to end up with a pig or unhappy for the rest of my life because I thought all men were like this. My future husband is my only exception. He is one of the reasons this song was made. He is the only exception to my heart and trust. It is still hard but he breaks down my wall a little at a time and I love him for sticking it out with me :) I love you daddy! Jc~n~dj falt (for a long time).

This song is about girl who wouldnt fall in ove incase it ended like her parents relationship so she always kept away from people and didn't socialise. So when she finally met someone she had to think to herself "i really like this guy, i dotn want to lose him" so she decided that she wouldnt let that happen because he is the one guy she loves and trusts enough.

What this song is telling me is that when she was a child, she was so innocent and believed in everything she saw. Her parents - role models - lost their affection for each other so she believed that no matter how much you care for someone, they'll always end up leaving you. But she found this one person, who cared for her so much she believed that really, love does exist, it's just hard to find. She knows that even if they're the only two that has found it, it's there.

I love this song because the way I interpret it, it relates to me. The mother leaves the family. In my case, she died suddenly and left us all alone when I was only 15. "i saw my daddy cry, and curse at the wind, broke his own heart.. " love does not exist anymore because I lost the person I loved the most. Although love still seems far away from me, I hope that one day, I can find someone who I can love as much as I loved my mother. I hope I can find, the only exception.

It's about having seen the end of the relationship between your parents when you saw them as the most stable and solid thing in your life. When you are faced with the prospect of starting a relationship yourself, you hesitate because if your parents didn't make it, how could you. But you want it to work because you want to believe that the person you have fallen for is worth the risk against all your instincts telling you otherwise.

My parents went through a divorce at an early age for me and I remember my mother leaving. And I let myself fall in love but never to deeply. Till I met derek. He changed my view on life and even though we both caused eachother huge messes in our lives and he says he doesn't feel for me as I feel for him. He's my only exception. Bc he has showed signs of likeing me now and though I went through alot of things. Somehow in the end. Even though he's now moving. He has always and will be my only exception. Bc love has no boundrys. Love finds us in the most aquward situations. And when we're broken it shows us how to live again. He's leaving in 2 weeks. But I know now I can make it bc I know he feels for me a little. And I know somehow. We'll meet again.

It's abt a lady who saw her parents lose their love. Until, it came into her mind that she would never be like in that same situation she had witnessed. She believed that love never lasts, but then, a man came into her life who taght her how to love. And still she hesitates because of the reality that the time may come that he would left her. She told herself to be contented being alone. But she's into believing that the man she would be an exception.

Actually it's a story about a girl who doesn't believe in love because of what happened to her parents, and she got to watch it happen. She said that she will never ever love anyone and she ends up falling in love with her best friend and he sleeps over at her house one night and they kiss and cuddle and fall asleep next to each other but she is worried that he doesn't feel the same way and she freaks out and says that he's going to leave, so she starts to dream, and she wakes up and realizes he's still there, and for once she believes in love.

I think in the song, its about someone who loves someone and only them that no matter what gets in the way, their the only exception to do that. I think its a really sweet, but strong worded song and that it opens up to people who are missing someone/something or that long love distances. Its an amazing song if you have that feeling of love, and fuzzy enjoyments. But also good for relationship battles and long terms.

She'd witnessed her parents loss of love and ever since then chose not to believe in it. However, she finally finds someone worth believing in. All her life she's been telling herself that love never lasts because of what she saw happened with her parents and she's on her way to believing in love again. "leave me with some kind of proof it's not a dream" simply means she wants him to stay with her and prove to her that love really does still exist.

Her mother had to deal with the pain of loving her father, but he loves another woman who doesn't love him back. The singer then decides to never love anyone because they won't love her back. She doesn't believe in falling in love and has always kept people emotionally distant. But tonight she sleeps with a man, and realizes that she has fallen in love with him. Naturally she's worried that he will leave her and hurt her, so she's asking him to give her assurance that he loves her back.

In the first verse, this song refers to when the singer (hayley williams) was a child, and something happened between her parents that left the father unforgiven by the mother, and the female singer thinking that true love isn't real. Now, she meets this guy and she is getting over her caution and suspicions of love and she's "making an exception" and falling in love with the guy.
This is a beautiful song, one of the best by paramore if you ask me!

This song holds a meaning to me, that meaning being that I once thought I had fallen in love. Then I got my heart torn into pieces. It didn't really occur to me that I am not always going to have a good life but recently I have found a new love. I know it may not last and that it might just be a quick thing but after two years of heartbroken loneliness I found a light. This song always reminds me of how I used to feel and how this new feeling is far more wonderful and how I treasure each moment.

It's about someone coming from a broken family. He/she didn't believe in the existence of love at the first place as what happened to his/her parents. But then, he/she finds someone who made him/her believe that love is exist as he/she fall in love with that person and the most important part is find out that person is the right one for him/her.

I think its about a girl whos been badly affected by her parents splitting up and because of that she doesn't believe love exists and so when ever she thinks of love she thinks of her parents love failing. She finds someone that she begins to fall in love with and slowly realises that love does exist when you find the right person!

It's about a girl who grew up watching her parents arguing. When she grew up she never had faith in love because of that, she was afraid to get too close to someone, so she wouldn't get hurt, and she tried to keep a distance from everyone. But then she found someone who honestly loves her, and although she still is in doubt and aware that its a risk, she knows he is worth of believing in love.

I think this is a song about a girl who's ordinarily tough and strong, and who has always promised she would never fall in love. Not only because she's seen people shatter because of it, but also because she never really believed it existed. This is her telling her love all about that side of her, and how he changed that - basically proving how special he is to her. Plus, she could be conveying how he's changed her as a person, and for the better.

A girl who's really afraid of falling in love because, she had that experience of coming from a broken family, she witnessed how it actually ruined her family relationships and that was right in front of her very own eyes. Therefore, she said or should I say, she promised to herself that she wouldn't fall in love coz it doesn't exist, nonetheless, here comes the man who's also willing to love here no matter what, and willing to make her believe that love is indeed existing.

Because of what she's seen when she was little with her parents, she's seen what happens and some of the bad effects of love, and she's always thought love is well basically fake, doesn't exist and she's tought herself not to get attached, to always keep a wall between her and guys. But now she's fell in love a guy, and she's letting him come into her life, and saying he's her "only exception"

Her parents brought out the worst of each other. She watched as they spewed angry words at each other and wonders how two people so wrong for each other could have ever gotten each other. Love and respect didn't exist between them. She kept and a comfortable distance in relationships because she didn't want to end up like her parents and getting hurt. Falling in love would hurt so much and make her vulnerable. Then, this normal guy comes along, but he's different. He does or says the right things. He treats her right. The wall around her guarded heart begins to crumble. She refuses to believe in the mystical twilight love, but maybe, just maybe, she could let herself fall in love just this once, and he could be her only exception. Alphaladywolf.

I hate this song! First of all let's start with the beginning. It made me confused. I said "what age group is paramore aimed at? Adaults or toodlers? " I said that because the song started with "when i was younger i saw my daddy cry and curse at the wind. "how babyish is that? Then the music, its very lame and boring. However when it says "i've got a tiger grip-on reality" the music became loud and obnoxious. It gave me a headache! Then it got lame again. Then I just fell asleep. The only exception is the worst song by paramore and the worst song in the world! It's just a nouisance and a bogus effort! If you haven't heard this piece of rubbish yet, you're doing yourself a big favor by forever avoiding it!

I think it's about a girl who was there to witness the breaking of her parent's relationship and saw how heartbreaking and terrible it seemed. Seeing this, she promises herself that love doesn't exist and won't let anyone or anything tell her otherwise. That is until she meets a guy that finally breaks through her walls and her current state of mind. She thinks it's just a fantasy so she asks him for proof that it's not a dream. She wants it to be true and she finally tries to believe in love.

I think this is about a girl who saw a love broken and she herself broke with it, and she decided to herself she was never going to be like that again. She was never going to let herself fall again, be crushed and broken and vulnerable to a thing that never cared for her. She banned romantic love from her mind and self; blocked it to prevent damage. She cut out a part of her heart and numbed it from feeling. And I think one day she was going along, building up her wall against emotion; when out of the blue he comes along. And he is the only one that breaks through to her, and he is the eyeglass to travel past the shallow, grey screen that she's draped over this world. And her subconscious is cynical and scared of this undescribable pure joy from him, but the majority of her is falling into it. She doesn't know where this path will lead, but she isn't afraid of anything, anymore, but losing him.

Well I saw a definition that said that this is a non-love song. What? Your english must be pretty bad, this song is obviously about love. Her parent's hearts were broken, so she said she would never sing of love if it does not exist. That means that she won't sing about a fantasy. The only exception is the only reason that she sings about love, which means she is living what she thought was not real at one time. That basically means that she loves the guy, and that the love exists. (sorry if I confused you.)

Am I the only one that has to find the words of this song bizarre? She says clearly: " i'd never sing of love, if it does not exist. " followed by the famous: " you are the only exception "! There is a clinker there! Roughly, if we analyse the words, the (poor) man -she sings about- has the "chance" to be in a song where he is the exception of the fact that she will never sing the love if there is no love. So she don't love the guy who is the only exeption. In summary it's a non-deliberate song of non-love. Do you get my point? Beside: sorry for my terrible english.

It's just like the song "mine" by Taylor swift. Don't you notice? Her parents always fought and grew up forgetting love but finds her true love and she takes him from every other man in the world because she believes in the relationship and believes it won't end up like her parents. The girl knows that maybe one day that they'll fall apart but hey, she's inlove and isn't love blinding? She knows she'll get hurt but hey. "I'm inlove".

I think it's about a young girl growing up with a mother that practically hates love because of her husband, and so the young girl grows up believing that every man will at some point to that to there wife or girlfriend. So she shut the door of love to only protect herself from men like her father. But as she grows more into a young adult she encounters a young man nothing like her dad. Which proving that not only is true love is real but that it can also come from a man. So she excepts him:)

It is about a girl who see's her parents break up and all the stress and hate that is going around in their household. But out of that hatedread she finds herself love of her own. A man. All she has to think of love now is that it ends in hurt and tears, just like her parents. But she sees hope for her and her boyfriend. The meaning of this song, she saw her parents love never work out. She swore to herself that if this love wasn't real, then why bother if it will only end in heartbreak? She spent her whole life guarding herself & putting up walls, just so she wouldn't fall in love. Taking the risk of getting hurt was never worth the risk until she met this one guy. She maybe deceive by love before. The proof was her parents losing the love and end up. Broken. Then coz of thar she nver believe in love anymore. Then here comes a boy who showed her that there is really a love you may find it by the person who you didn't expect and by that time that you did not expected too. Its a natural feeling that you can't explain. You may feel the same feeling for some you may with but there is only one person that you can't explain what have you felt and he/She is the only exception.

I cried when I first heard this song. The ones we love the most have the greatest power to destroy, including themselves. Unhealthy choices create broken hearts. But broken hearts can be restored which is evident of even a greater love. Love through a youth’ s eyes can be distorted by believing love is all about a feeling. Loving requires a choice, a commitment and admittedly, hard work. This song could be so different if this younger one could have witnessed her parents overcoming their brokenness. Love is a powerful emotion and I think the greater message in this song is to realize that love is not just a feeling but a choice. And it must be handled with great care.

When she was younger her daddy probably cheated on her mom and she left him. So as a child she grew up believe that love didn't really exist, just something talked about and hoped for. But now she has found her only exception. I think that it's a new relationship. And they probably made love for the first time too. (Btw please stop stealing this comment) Thanksss.

But I'm not really sure at the ending because it says "i know your leaving in the morning, when i wake up" does that mean he leaves? I think maybe it does. But she liked him so much that she doesn't want to give up on finding that love agian. Idk, just my opinion.

I put this song in the terms that I never believed that I should completely put my all into anyone or say I love you until I was sure that they were the one and that this is the person I was going to devote myself to for the rest of my life, I don't believe in wasting anyways time with sillyness. And when I hear this song I think of my fiance and how much I love her and how I never cared and I gave up on love completely and then she came. She is my only exception. I have told everyone if it is not her it is no one. Love this song.

This song is about a girl who had to witness her father cheating on her mother thereby breakin his own heart because regardless of what he did he really loved her. This incident left a big and lasting impression on her leading her to believe that love is not worth all the risks. So she lived this way, keeping love out until she met a man whom she really loved. He was the only exception and she was willing to give it a shot even though he might prove her fears right and let her down.

This song's meaning is not just having faith in love but also having faith in people. She kept to herself because she didn't want her heart to break when they left he life or betrayed her. But then someone came along that was beyond her control of being able to not love. They were so perfect in every way that they were an exception to her life of loneliness and one day she knows she'll wake up and her love for them wont be returned.

After my last break up, I decided to completely accept the fact that true love does not exist and that I would be alone forever. I now know that there are no real, true, honest, loyal, devoted, committed, unconditional loving people left in the world. This song goes out to that one special man that may still be right for me. The guy who may be able to love me for me unconditionally, and I, him. Here's to the hope of one day finding that one special man.

Everyone hits that "it's about coming from a broken family". Everyone says something about her parents. It's not about her parents and it's not about a broken home. It's simply about love. Yes, the examples given were about these things, but that makes the song exclusive, which the song is anything but. Simply put, it's about how love is almost elusive. That love is hard to find. That love is hard to believe in and that the thought of love will make anyone jaded. So many times we say the words "i love you" only to find out later that we should have said "i lust you". Love is mean and cruel. So why would anyone want to sing about it? All too often people give up hope on the thought of love and then bam. It happens, and the exception of your life brings you love.
No matter who you are, no matter what you've done, love exists. Love is real, and if tomorrow you were to wake and that love was gone, you would want to remember it. "it's better to love and lost than to have never loved at all".

I'm in love with my best friend. He has helped me cope with my depression, my bulimia, and drug problems. He knew I wasn't ready for a relationship because of my past and he waited near me patiently. He comforted me, made me stop, let me cry, made me smile and never judged me. I didn't even realize I fell in love with him because there was no downs, only ups. He is the only exception.

I think this song is about a girl who has come from a family with problems to the point of her parents getting divorced. She never wants to see that happen to her because she saw how her dad reacted. So she has got it in her head that love doesn't exist and she doesn't want anything to do with the thought of love. Soon enough she find a guy who she really likes and she doesn't want to admit that she loves him so he tells herself that he is the "only exception" for her. Eventually she realizes that love is a real think and she is on her way to believing.

I can relate to this song thoroughly. My parents never really got along so they parted for a few years. I know what its like to be hurt so I gave up on love because I had no proof of its existance. A very special guy I know has proven me the opposite. I wept on his chest after making love with him to the sound of this song. That's exceptional;)

I love this song! I was shopping and it came on the radio and I was like "hey this is a cool song!" and my friend was like "um no" anyway my friend has no taste! Lol.
Cool song and the meaning cuts deep into the heart, to me this song means to stop believing in love and then finding someone who restores that belief. Beautiful. It's about finding an exception.

Ok so here's what I think. When she was younger her daddy probably cheated on her mom and she left him. Hence, "he broke his own heart and i watched as he tried to reassmeble it". So as a child she grew up believe that love didn't really exist, just something talked about and hoped for. But now she has found her only exception. I think that it's a new relationship. And they probably made love for the first time too. Hence, "I know you're leaving in the morning when you wake up.Leave me with some kind of proof that its not a dream.". I could be right. I could be wrong.

Woooaaahhh. This. Song. Is. The. Best. No, seriously. This really meant something; and she believes that love is true, even if she comes from like, a divorced, no-love-type family. So it made her believe that like, there's no love and what she sees is also nothing, there's no love in her family so it affects her beliefs in love. So, yeah.
Okay, okay, enough about the meaning, oh god, this is an awesome song, really. I love it, it's sad-ish in a way and I enjoyed listening to it and the lyrics really touched me and. Wow. Yeah. Paramore. Whooo.
