Pata Pata Song by Miriam Makeba. I was In the fifth grade when this song came out. I remember my 6th grad graduation, some of the girls did a dance to this song. I don't remember the dance, but I do remember how happy I was to here this song. I did'nt have a clue to what Miriam was saying, but the groove and the melody moved me then as it does now and stuck with me. This is one of my all time favorite pieces of music, ya' gotta love.

"pata pata" is the sound that the raindrops make as they hit the roofs of the corrugated iron shacks in the south african townships.
The downpours are so heavy during the rainy season, that the noise inside is deafening, but strangely rhythmical. & the parents would get their frightened children to dance to the rhythm of the rain to alleviate their fear. This practice was passed on down from mother to daughter & the dance became 'uniform' and almost every black african township child knew how to do it.
It finally filtered through to the johannesburg dancehalls, and instantly became a hit with all of the countries residents. 'the pata' had arrived!

I love these arrogant people who pretend they could speak another language but actually don't and just try to make themselves important. If it so appalling and this "unregistered" could speak it, why doesn't (s)he write the correct lyrics and it's translation? Just to find it a bit more appalling?
Being offended and longing for censorship is a typical sign of misguided pride! Cut it out!

Errr. Wtf?! Who the hell wrote these lyrics? Does writing a bunch of gibberish qualify as being lyrics now. If you don't know the lyrics to the song, don't go writing whatever you think it 'sounds' like and passing those off as the lyrics sang by one of our greatest artist. The original song was sung by mama afrika in xhosa, and this nonsense written above is no that. It's not even a language. It's insulting to her memory, please someone, anyone responsible for this site, remove these lyrics, I mean what the hell!
