Parkway Drive – Idols And Anchors lyrics
Now,
Your heroes have fallen
Champion-less
The seas are rising

So torch every banner,
Every hope of surviving
Lifetime is waking
Security has left you
Treading water

Now taste the fear
Tasting the uncertainty

What will you do? (What will you do?)
When there's nothing left for you to cling to
What will you do? (What will you do?)
When your life has rot
Thrive in your emptiness

Burn all you love
There's no hope for the weak
Your heroes have died

There is...
No Hope.

For it still flies
In the Abyss (In the Abyss)
I'll find one
Beg for a way
Out from the nest

Can you hear it?
Can you hear the sound?
As our broken Idols
Come crashing down.

Now taste the fear
Now, taste the fear

Burn all you love
There's no hope for the weak
Your Heroes have died
Burn all you love
There's no hope for the weak

Burn all you love

People you idolise influence you in negative ways and through no real fault of their own lead you down a detrimental path. They offer you an excuse in your own mind and hence your idols can act as anchors in your life. One example would be and problem alcoholic fan who idolises say pantera and whenever things get rough through problems his drinking has caused that's who you listen to. It provides you with a means of justification which in turn anchors you to that problem. That's how I view it anyway.

Idols are people you worship or respect. While theres nothing wrong with this, most of the time we overdo it. We let them take over to much of our lives and consequently can't decide for ourselves amongst other unpleasant stuff that your not likely to take note of. Therefore like anchors cut them loose, don't let them drown you when their ships wreck. Really good song, also try and listen to the balance by august burns red, talks about the same thing.

Idols drag you down like an anchor. These lyrics highlight how society's problem is the norm and faith about having a hero or idol, and shows the consequences using the metaphor of drowning. --'security has left you treading water' perhaps points towards an idea that having an idol is a fake security to follow your problems/life by, and now your left in a time of desperation to do it yourself, with no practice or training.

Uh I agree with the first half of Vanillia Prime's evaluation, "idols drag you down like an anchor. These lyrics highlight how society's problem is the norm and faith about having a hero or idol," But after that, no. I think that simply, when you have lost your idol, you're left to taste fear and struggle for as long as you can hold up, by the lyrics "Security has left you treading water."
