Rabbi Shergill – Bulla Ki Jaana lyrics
Bulla! ki jaana mai kaun

Na mai momin vich maseet aan
Na mai vich kufar diyan reet aan
Na mai paakaan vich paleet aan

Na mai andar ved kitaab aan,
Na mai renda bhang sharaab aan
Na mai renda masat kharaab aan

Na mai shaadi na ghamnaaki
Na mai vich paleeti paaki
Na mai aabi na mai khaki
Na mai aatish na mai paun

Bulla! ki jaana mai kaun X4

Na mai arabi na lahoria
Na mai hindi shehar nagauri
Na hindu na turak peshawri

Na mai bheth mazhab da paaya
Ne mai aadam havva jaaya
Na koi apna naam dharaaya

Avval aakhir aap nu jaana
Na koi dooja hor pehchaana
Maethon na koi hor siyaana
Bulla! shah khadda hai kaun

Bulla! ki jaana mai kaun

Na mai moosa na pharaun.
Na mai jaagan na vich saun.
Na mai aatish na mai paun
Na mai rehnda vich nadaun
Na mai baitthan na vich bhaun
Bulla! shah khadda hai kaun

Bulla! ki jaana mai kaun
Oooooo.......

I'm neither an atheist, nor am I perfectly spiritual. Nobody knows what I am. It's me, just me who knows what I am from inside.
Nobody can decide this except me. I choose my religion, I choose my customs. But inside I'm still a human being. Just like every other human being on this planet.
So why decide upon what I am. Because we are all the same.
Bulla(the decider). He doesn't have the right to decide upon what I am. He doesn't know me.

Basically poet wants to convey that he's a free bird and limitless. There are no restrictions that can be imposed on him. He doesn't belong to any religion, cast or creed.
Honestly, this poem should be made understand to those who're splitting the world in the name of Religion, cast, color or creed. God sends us free n takes us back free with no strings attached. So why this hate? Why this violence, this greed, this lust and this war?

Bullah Shah (A famous punjabi sufi poet) is addressing to himself and says, ''I don't know who I'm. I am neither a muslim in mosque nor a hindu in temple. I am not pure/pious among impure/impious. I am neither a great saint or prophet. I have never found the secrets of religion. I am not born of fire. Even I don't have any name. I have at last known to myself. I don't recognise anyone. No one is wiser than I. Bullashah says who is there standing wiser than he.

He is not talking about himself, he is telling the existence of almighty God, that God is not existing in these materialistic things which people's of different tradition suppose God is and phrase used "Bhulla ki Janna main Kon" means how could Bhulle shah would know what God is. We can understand this line by breaking "Bhulla ki Janna", "main Kon".

It is the Sufi Ideology expressed in a poetic way.
The question of Who am 'I'.. Bulleshah says, Bulleshah ( The outer man, the person whome people call 'Bulleshah') donot know who the real 'Me' (the Soul from God)is. It is the outer person who is everything that he describes not 'Him' but the real soul in him has got nothing to do with them, religion, nation, language, even the identity of human.

This IS the actual meaning of this kaafi. Bulleh Shah is conveying a message of one god and saying afterwards, "Bulla ki jaana, mai kaun" which actually, poetically expressed means "What Bulleh Shah knows about you."
