This beautiful song of regina's is basically about her friend who got cancer but it could also be from the bible because of 'samson and delilah'. But I think it's much more emotional if it's about a friend of hers who got cancer. If my interpretation is right then by 'oh we couldn't bring the columns down, yeah we couldn't destroy a single one' it means that her friend died of cancer because they couldn't destroy it. When she says 'i cut his hair myself one night' means she cut his hair so that it wasn't patchy from the chemo. 'samson went back to bed, not much hair left on his head' means he just had more chemo and he had hardly any hair left on his head anymore. When she says 'beneath the sheets of paper lies my truth' it means they got the cancer results. I think this song is very touching and emotional, and it's simply beautiful.

I think it means a girl fell in love with someone else because of who they truly were. However, that person changed, making them their downfall, their sweetest downfall. Regina says " I loved you first" meaning, I loved you before you changed. Before, you cut your hair ("your hair was long when we first met), before you changed your personality and the thing that drew me to you changed. It means, now Samson, her former love does not care to contact her. He stays in bed, doesn't care to see her. All they had before he changed is forgotten about and erased. She thought what they had was special, like the brightest star, when really, the true light attracting them had worn out long before. He later comes back to her because he realizes his faults and what he had done wrong.

I think that the girl is meaning that shes hurt from loving someone who then betrayed her "I loved you first" then deliah comes cuts his hair "you hair was long when we first met " and this becomes the story everybody remembers and not the girl who really loved him "the bible didnt mention us". But like the girl above says the girl in the song loves the true him and when samson has no strength she'll always be with the girl who really loved him and he comes back because he realises this.

This song always reminds me of my ex, I was his first gf "i loved you first". And we started seeing each other when I was training to be a hairdresser and he used to let me practice on him and he always used to tell me I'd done a good job even if he hated it haha. "and the history books forgot about us" nobody remembers we were ever together and we never made a dent on the world. But he made a huge dent on me.
