Basically this song is about some one more than likely a child who does not feel welcome/hates life on general so they commit suicide in which they go Neverland (heaven). In this song Peter Pan is the angel who guides the child to heaven. The part about where it goes I finally had a family is when the child realized they had a family on earth an are basically feeling regret over killing themself.

I think its about the Lost Boys Of Sudan. Children terrified from the genocide, separated from families, alone with no where to turn. Way too young to take care of themselves or see what they did. They were able to escape because they were away from the village taking care of livestock by the water. Experts say the Lost Boys are the most badly war-traumatized children ever examined.

The journey of the Lost Boys was filled with suffering and unknowns as the boys rarely knew the direction they were headed. Groups of Boys were often organized and led by the oldest boy in the group, who could be a young adult or sometimes as young as ten or twelve years old. The Lost Boys came to the camps without guardians or adult supervision. They immediately required housing and schooling, which changed the allocation of resources in the camps. With some of the boys arriving in the camps at ages as young as 6 or 7, many of the Boys spent the majority of their childhood and adolescence being raised in the camps. Ultimately, being raised in a refugee camp significantly altered their development and ability to assimilate into regular life.

I figured this song is about finding a place where you belong. Maybe this person didn't commit suicide, but they finally found the place where people want them...where they feel welcomed and happy.

But maybe the song is about suicide, in this case, or maybe they're contemplating suicide but haven't done it yet.

Peter Pan is an angel that guides children that have passed to Heven (Neverland). When he closes his eyes that's the boy dying. And now he's in heaven and he tells about what happens. That's what a lot of people said it meant on YouTube. Its so sad but its such a beautiful song.

From my perspective the song could be about kids who fight disease like cancer. Whatever could be said about it, you face yourself first when you have to fight against your own body so you can feel lonely. Peter Pan is the doctor, Captain Hook the disease you have to run from, Neverland is a safe place to mentally escape without feeling blue or sad and could be seen as the remission. At the same time Neverland becomes part of the kid because they couldn't live without being there. The pixie dust could be the cure (to get in Neverland). I want to see the lost boys as the survivors who start their "second life" being free and keeping Neverland in their heart and mind forever. As a cancer survivor myself this song is very emotional since I understand it this way.

Of course all songs can be interpreted any way you choose, but there seems to be so many people here interpreting the song as a song about death, but I don't think that's it at all. It's kind of like in The Bridge to Terebithia, where the children have their own characters in their own world that they love to play with and go to as an escape from reality. In the same way, the writer's Neverland is their escape, whether that be by themselves or with their new friends that they see as Lost Boys. This person is talking about discovering their place in life. Even though they still have "villains" as they did before, they can now accept that life comes with both the good and the bad because they realize that it all comes together to make the perfect story. Looking back, they realize that maybe their friends never really loved them, but they can look back on it fondly because they now know where they belong. I think the pixie dust mentioned in the song could just be friendship or compliments or something. Pixie dust makes the person fly, so it could be a metaphor for bringing up their mood and bringing them out of their sadness or weariness.

This song is really sad. It's not as simple as it seems. For example, the intro: "There was a time, when I was alone. No where to go and no place to call home." This is signifying that the character that this song is about had social anxiety, because of that he felt alone. 'No one to hold and no place to call home' Means that he felt so trapped that he didn't feel like he even belonged on earth. This boy longed for a better life. "Then one night as I closed my eyes." Means that he was done with life and he was going to commit suicide. Peter Pan comes to talk him through doing it. "Believe in you and believe in me." He said as he guided this boy off of his roof top. And as he fell he felt like he was flying. Peter pan took him to never land and now the boy has completely forgotten about the life he left behind because he's so happy In the after life. "Run, Run lost boy" it says "They say to me, away from all of reality." This is signifying his comfort in never land (Heaven) and how he escaped the cruel reality of hatred in the world. This boy doesn't feel anymore loneliness or stress or depression, hurt, and discomfort. "Never land is home to lost boys like me and lost boys like me are free." Where he is now he is free. He's not trapped in a box anymore. "Together we will fly away in a cloud of green, to your beautiful destiny." When he jumped he was going to a place so much better and more beautiful. "As we soared above the town that never loved me I realized I finally had a family." No one showed him the love he needed on earth and no one seemed to care for him, thus making him believe that the only way out was suicide. "Forever a lost boy at last" He can never go back home. He is dead now. There is no way he would want to go back anyway because he's better now.

In my view, this song is either about drugs or suicide. You can choose what is the most powerful to you. I think Peter Pan represents cocaine, cannabis or cutting. Or another drug, idk. This boy or girl is clearly very depressed or has another mental disorder, and finds a promise in the drugs that says: "Peter Pan, that's what they call me. I promise that you'll never be lonely". After that, (s)he can't stop thinking about "Peter Pan", and keeps escaping to "neverland", which is where (s)he is when (s)he is high. I actually think this makes a lot of sense.

I think it could be interpreted as a post-suicide song. It is about someone who felt out of place in the real world, and killed themself "run away from reality"/"closed my eyes", and neverland and lost boys refers to the place kids who commit suicide go "neverland is home to lost boys like me", the term "lost boys" referring to the kids who have committed suicide due to them feeling lonely of out of place or "lost" persay, in the real world. Because if you think about it, Peter Pan is a boy who never wanted to grow up. He leads a band of boys named the Lost Boys, filled with kids who never want to grow up. In committing suicide, kids die young, never growing up.
This song could also be viewed as a drug like hallucination of peace when someone is od-ing. Its terribly morbid and sad, but so achingly beautiful and simple at the same time.

I think the song is about a kid who has little to no friends as he is coming of age, so his coping method is to retreat into his dream world with the story of Peter Pan being the center of it all; I actually went through this as a child and would often retreat into my dream world with fictional characters from movies/books/games that I loved, and they would be my friends - I no longer do this but I miss that vivid imagination I used to have. ~ Anyway back to the song: reality is harsh and is threatening to change who the boy is, and his imagination, without knowing it, his retreat into his dream world, "away from reality," allows him to keep this side of himself - uncorrupted, innocent, and free. This song may have another meaning, but since I went through a very similar situation through my middle school years, I can relate a lot to the lyrics in that aspect.

This song is subject to different interpretations. Personally,I'd like to limit it to finding comfort in someone who makes you happy and feel good when you are your worst. Life gets so tough sometimes... and then this Peter Pan (which could be a person, music, a dream etc) becomes your feel-good source. Its a lovely, sad, nostalgic and powerful song. My baby brother passed away 2 years ago at almost 17 years old. This song seems to fit in too. I dedicate this to you, OT.

I actually feel like this song is about a little girl who doesn't have any friends, and is sad during the day, but at night, she falls asleep and dreams. She goes to her happy place, which would be neverland, and she has her friends, such as Peter Pan, and he is like her imaginary boyfriend because she thinks no boy is going to like her in real life. When it says "Usually hanging out with Peter Pan", It would be saying that she spends her time daydreaming rather than paying attention to reality. "Peacefully my feet hit the sand" would b like when she goes to sleep every day. I don't like the idea of the kid committing suicide, but I love this idea, so I'm sticking with it. I love this song, and if Ruth B wrote it about suicide, then I can respect that, but I much prefer dreams. Please don't get at me for saying this if it is false. When I hear this song, It makes me want to fly away with peter pan, but only in my dreams. It is now in my dreams that some boy some day will walk up to me and sing "Peter pan, That's what they call me, I promise that you'll never be lonely".

I initially came up with the idea, it was just some fun words thrown to a catchy melody, but when I sat down to actually write it, I really did want to give it a message, she shared. Not really a meaning, per se, but the first time I heard this song, it made me think of the Peter Pan that used to be at Disneyland who always hugged people and many people have said that he gave them a reason to live and not self harm anymore. Both the suicide and drug theories make sense to me, but since neither of those are an issue for me anymore, I would go with the dream meaning. I often look forward to sleep because dreaming is the only way I can escape reality just for a little while, plus I have heard many people say that they always used to wish Peter Pan would take them away to Neverland. Anyway, whoever Peter Pan really is, he seems to bring comfort to adults and children alike, and this song seems to be about finding that comfort one way or another.

For another, an apple is to decorate their home. Then you can get creative and use an apple to smoke weed from! Kidding aside, what life is, what reality is, it's whatever your creative mind chooses to believe in. Escaping the reality that there is no one who loves you, and that you have no friends or family, that is not a true reality unless you believe it is. Our world has too many wonderful things to cling to. So no one can say what reality has to be. If you're miserable and alone, I too would sing to you this lovely song, and tell you to escape from your horrible and unnecessary reality. Close your eyes and visualize your Peter Pan. When you find him, believe in him and believe in yourself. Let that belief give you the courage to take a leap of faith. Then, and only then, will you find that place which has no end. A place like Neverland.

This song's meaning is about a child who doesn't have parents or (family) who cares about him or anyone who cares about and his town doesn't like him either. And he wants to commit suicide and Peter Pan comes and saves him and takes him to Neverland. To be happy like he did with Wendy and her family because he new they weren't happy either.

I think that the part of "cloud of green" refers to death. In harry potter the killing curs is green and when you d you go back into the green earth to be at peace. The green symbolises the peacefulness found in death as they are free away from the harshness of reality.

These responses are so different from what I felt! I feel it's a story of a girl who found herself all alone-Then something charming crossed her path and led her away into a fantasy. I take it as a relationship. Peter Pan is enticing and playful and adventurous and draws her to him when she is alone and feels empty. He exhilarates her with pixie dust and adventures-But I believe it's a life of denial. On the run from the one who would try to take away Peter Pan. He wants her to stay in the stagnant land where nothing has to change-But growth is a part of life. Neverland feels like home, and feels free when you're flying, but you only feel free as long as you run. If you stop running, reality finds you and you're confronted with what you tried to escape. I love Neverland too. I'm still in love with Peter Pan. The thing is there's a reality past Neverland that needs me-Peter Pan will never leave Neverland. Leaving home hurts, but I still find pixie dust around me every once and a while. Peter Pan's shadow still dances across my walls on lonely nights.

I believe the song was written to express LGBT people. The fact that it's a female singing I am lost boy (boy in girls body) or lost boy as in Christian boy who is lost and doing worldly things. "I played with Peter Pan in the woods". Wendy Darling (female) and Captain Hook (traditional marriage) you are my perfect storybook. Just the way I have interpreted the song. I am straight and married but saw the song this way.

Ruth B actually did an interview on this song. She wanted it to be about finding refuge in the things, places, and people you enjoy when the rest of the world pulls you down. Like how the lost boy has neverland and peter and the lost boys, so we too can find our own comfort spots. It's mostly about making an effort to being happy.

I think this song is about a girl who desperately wanted her life to be different as a child and while growing up she kept encountering people who could give her that chance but she was scared and didn't take them. Until she got up the nerve to go with Peter Pan (who gives her the chance to be free) she wishes on the moon (like wishing upon a shooting star) who disappears too and she loses hope constantly about her dreams of life. Until she reaches Neverland, she constantly feels at war with the world around her and doesn't feel like she belongs. As soon as she goes with Peter Pan and feels the sand beneath her feet, she realizes that's where she wants to be and only then, does she feel at peace. We are always on the run from bad things but if we have people to help us through those bad times, we can make them more of adventures than scary things and that's what the Lost Boys always had, were adventures either running from Captain Hook or just playing in the woods like kids get to do. Peter Pan may be a reference to street drugs and a guardian angel to Heaven but I think he is just a reference to a person who can take away the pain and help someone through a bad time and give them the reminder that everything will be ok if you just believe.

I love this song. I simply see this as someone who doesn't like or isn't happy with where there life is. They escape to a place that isn't reality because there you don't have face pain or heartache that daily life brings us. In this place you can be whom you want, do what you want with no accountability per se.

Sad really as I know someone struggling with this.

So when I heard this song I thought of orphaned or foster children who feel alone, unloved without family and significance or belonging. I thought peter pan was basically they use fairytales and story books to escape from their sad reality. They escape in their head and as they read peter pan they find they really identify with peter pan and the lost boys and dream of that being true for them. They often fantasize about being a lost boy and having a family among the other lost boys and peter pan in Neverland. Through reading this story they realize they may not be alone in feeling this way and they have hope. They often dream of someone like peter pan taking them away to a place where they will belong. They escape to this fantasy world often to cope with their world and therefore Neverland the fantasy and this story feels like home to them. They feel safe when they mentally go to this place or when they read this book. That is why they say never land is home to lost boys like me. Also they comfort themselves by identifying with the lost boys which gives them a sense of identity. Lost boys like me are free, meaning he has solace in knowing that at least he can be free like a lost boy. It has its pros and cons never having a place to call home. One pro is being free not having rules or limits. But of course that comes at the price of not feeling loved or a place to belong like the lost boys. But now through the story and his imagination he has family with these characters and Neverland is home. He often closes his eyes and imagines going to Neverland with peter pan or dreams of this in his sleep.

I think this song is about someone that is having a bad time, and when they fall asleep they get to get away from all the bad thoughts. Neverland is where you go in your dreams. Because in the movie Peter Pan, he dreams and goes with thinkerbell and so. I really like the song tho, it has many different meanings I think, to how every different person is feeling at the moment.

I think this song is about a girl who felt lonely. She didn't have any friends and was possibly bullied. She felt so lonely that when she went to sleep at night she dreamt she was in a better happier place, Neverland, where she had a family, Peter Pan and the lost boys. She would dream about them every night and feel comfort in the idea that people wanted to love her. Almost like people that go crazy and they create a world for themselves where everything is better. After every day when she would go to bed she would go to neverland. She created this perfect world that she could live in, much like a "perfect story book" as it says during the song.

I think this song is a lonely person, feeling overwhelmed by the world and it´s harshness, feeling helpless, like an infant. He/she used to think that there was one person he/she can trust, one person who understand, but even that person failed him frequently and he loses all faith. Desperate, he/she seeks refuge in drugs, taking him to a land he can understand, a land less troubling. In this world he has friends, other lost boys, and a known and visible enemy, an enemy he/she can tackle, compared to his problems in the real world that are like set in stone and don´t wear a face. Peter Pan symbolizes the desire to forget this world, his own voice promising him that it can help him flee reality. Sinking deeper and deeper in this fictional world, he starts to prefer it´s easiness and beauty and cuts last strings with reality, disappearing into the shining world of the drugs.

This song, to me, is about a boy/girl who was once drowning in depression, but now brought back up to breathe by "Peter Pan". "Peter Pan" perhaps being a certain special individual, to the person singing, in the future.

Point being I think its a story of how this girl/ buy was rescued by the said special individual from depression, the person made them happy when she/he felt unloved and lonely. Kind of like a love song, reminds me of how my friends helped me through rough times. More specifically my current boyfriend. Tbh I didn't believe anyone was my friend back in that depressing past, but now I'm happier, as was the girl/boy in the end of "lost boy." I love this song, I don't agree with anyone on this, I just think it's a song about Peter Pan and I love it so much, it is my favorite song so if you think anything negative, f**k off and just the person sing a song about Peter Pan. The song to me is about suicide, the person starts off talking about the loneliness(depression) then it continues into the next verse where in he/she sees Peter pan after they close their eyes (dying/passed on) where they are greeted with warmth and peace (sweet smile) by Peter who is also a child /teenager who died and helps the other children who die pass on to "never land" which is heaven or life after death, as this occurs he/she experiences love and bliss(no more pressure, now I just play and run) finally having found peace after suicide. The song ends with he/she repeating "a lost boy at last" having finally ended their depression and finding that freedom from the world, hate, pressure, etc.

Sorry, but this song has no real meaning, you may have what it means to you personally, but the writer didn't intend it to be that deep. The writer, Ruth B, only wrote a full song because she wrote the chorus, posted it on vine, and people liked it and wanted more. The song is solely about Peter Pan. However, she wrote it for 1 reason and you can sing it back for any other reason you wish. Songs are out there to reach out to you and help you explain your feelings when you can't explain them alone. They help your feelings and relate to you. So I'm not saying any of the "song meanings" are wrong, they're just your personal opinion. I just thought I'd tell you why she wrote a full song. I think it is about a child who is dreaming, but it is also kinda real. Like The Wizard of Oz. Because it says "I close my eyes", so the person might be sleeping. I don't really think that he (it says lost boy) died, because after what I have gathered, it is supposed to be happiness and dying would not be happy. Suicide is the same thing, it's not happy. Anxiety, Depression, DRUGS!? None of it really is about holding on to who you really are and or being happy. I know that anxiety and depression are not happy because I have both. And for all the people who have the fancy-pants interviews, is that what you actually think? Is it embracing who you are by voicing your opinions, or are you voicing the writer/singer's opinion of what the song means. I personally think you are doing the second. I do not mean to be offensive, but am voicing my own opinion, which is what this song is all about. Being happy and being yourself. And I think it also means that you need your imagination to be happy, so if I had to describe this song in one word, I would say imagination.
