Sixx A.M. – Courtesy Call lyrics
[Dialtone, knocking]
[Female voice:] Housekeeping...
[Knocking]
[Female:] Hello, housekeeping?
[Tries, door, knocking]
[Female:] Hello?

Well you found me, but I don't know
Why you wanna save me...
Well, God is great and God is good
But God didn't help me when he could
And life dances so lonely by.

This is just a courtesy call
This is just a matter of policy
This is just an act of kindness
To let you know that your time is up
This is just a courtesy call
This is just a matter of policy
This is just an act of kindness
To let you know that your time is up

I, I can't feel anything
My arms are numb and I'm hoping
You noticed the line I left off
All that you'll find inside
Are bells and butterflies
But I'll be smiling when I die

This is just a courtesy call
This is just a matter of policy
This is just an act of kindness
To let you know that your time is up
This is just a courtesy call
This is just a matter of policy
This is just an act of kindness
To let you know that your time is up

This is just a courtesy call
This is just a matter of policy
This is just an act of kindness
To let you know that your time is up

[Knocking]
[Female:] Sir, I know you're in there; are you okay?
[Male voice:] Excuse me, ma'am, what's the problem here?
[Female:] No one answering.
[Male:] Who's in here. Hello?
[Knocking]
[Male:] Hello? Stepping in the room now...
[Keys jingle, LOUD blunt thump, dialtone gets louder]
[Male:] Oh Jesus Christ!
[Female:] Oh! Ooh!

This is just a courtesy call
This is just a matter of policy
This is just an act of kindness
To let you know that your time is up
This is just a courtesy call
This is just a matter of policy
This is just an act of kindness
To let you know that your time is up

This is just a courtesy call
(Why'd you want to save me?)
This is just a matter of policy
(Why'd you want to save me now?)
This is just an act of kindness
(What'd you want to do it for?)
To let you know that your time is up
This is just a courtesy call
(Why would you wanna save my life?)
This is just a matter of policy
(I know you did or you could)
This is just an act of kindness
(It's been comin' for a long time, long time...)
To let you know that your time is up

The beginning and Intermission can have a deeper meaning, but I believe that's just in there to make it sound more authentic.

"Well you found me —> Life dances so lonely by"
Nikki Sixx once being a heroin addict, is reminiscing about the first time he was a hairlength away from death, but was just barely saved by the paramedics (Or Maybe even Sally McLaughlin..?). He didn't understand why anyone would want to save him. He felt like he was useless and worthless.

"This is just a Courtesy Call —> To let you know that your time is up"
These are the last words Nikki can recall, having heard them on, yes, a hotel phone letting him know his time is up and he needs to leave. They're the words that keep repeating in his mind as he slowly "fades away" for yet another time.

    "I, I can't feel anything —> But I'll be smiling when I die"
Nikki is near the point of losing consciousness, thus he describes how he feels (or was feeling). From all the Heroin, he can't feel himself; his arms are numb. He had left the phone line off (busy) so that if anyone (perhaps a lover?) would notice it was busy a lot more than usual and would come check up on him. But, by the time they'd find him, it's be too late. He'd be dead and they would only find bells (Perhaps this is Nikki's mind playing tricks on him. Heroin users have reported hearing bells when on heroin. Perhaps he really thought the bells were real) and butterflies (The Butterfly Needle). But, even so, Nikki will be smiling when he dies.

The echoes in the final "chorus"
First, corrections to what I believe the lyrics are.
What'd you want to do it for?) —> I hear "Would you tell me one, one, one thing now?)
(I know you did or you could) —> I hear " I know you did all you could"
(It's been comin' for a long time, long time...) —> Fast and Silent "But" before this line.

I believe this is Nikki desperately wanting to know what's so special about him that anyone would ever want to save him, even when he sees death just around the corner, he still wants to know why people want him to continue living, thus, wants to be saved.

This was my interpretation of the lyrics.

This song, I interrupt as "god" is calling to tell Nikki Sixx that his time is up. Nikki Sixx was a heroin addict who was legally pronounced dead twice before he decided to get clean. He is explaining that "god" is "calling" him just to let him know that he will be dying. Towards the end when you hear the man and woman walk in his room and then the sirens go off, describes how he was found in the motel room when he was pronounced dead. I took this song as that god was telling him that his life would be over if he didn't get clean. It's a "courtesy call," because not a lot of other people have the fortune of being "warned," before they die. Again, this is just my interpretation.
