Skillet – Lucy lyrics
Hey Lucy, I remember your name
I left a dozen roses on your grave today
I'm in the grass on my knees, wipe the leaves away
I just came to talk for a while
I got some things I need to say

Now that it's over
I just wanna hold her
I'd give up all the world to see
That little piece of heaven looking back at me

Now that it's over
I just wanna hold her
I've gotta live with the choices I made
And I can't live with myself today

Hey Lucy, I remembered your birthday
They said it'd bring some closure to say your name
I know I'd do it all different if I had the chance
But all I got are these roses to give
And they can't help me make amends

Now that it's over
I just wanna hold her
I'd give up all the world to see
That little piece of heaven looking back at me
Now that it's over
I just wanna hold her
I've gotta live with the choices I made
And I can't live with myself today

Here we are
Now you're in my arms
I never wanted anything so bad
Here we are
For a brand new start
Living the life that we could've had

Me and Lucy walking hand in hand
Me and Lucy never wanna end
Just another moment in your eyes
I'll see you in another life
In heaven where we never say goodbye

Now that it's over
I just wanna hold her
I'd give up all the world to see
That little piece of heaven looking back at me

Now that it's over
I just wanna hold her
I've gotta live with the choices I made
And I can't live with myself today

Me and Lucy walking hand in hand
Me and Lucy never wanna end
Got to live with the choices I've made
And I can't live with myself today

Hey Lucy, I remember your name

John Cooper finally actually explained the meaning of this song in a concert at Pittsburgh that I went to. Here's exactly what he said: "A young girl and a young guy who were in a situation and found out she was pregnant. It was hard because they were young, they weren't married, they didn't have any money, and they were scared to death. They didn't know what to do. The only option they thought they had was to terminate the pregnancy. They went to a clinic, and had the procedure done, went home, and for a moment they felt a little bit better about their situation, they thought all their problems had gone away, but eventually something happened that they didn't expect: an intense sadness and guilt and pain. They went to a therapist, and her suggestion was to treat it like there was a loss in the family. So they did three things: 1. Held a funeral for the baby. 2. Gave it a gravestone. 3. Named her Lucy.

This is a song that touches my heart to the deepest soul. I too had an abortion and pain that goes along with it is deep, long last and forever. This song says it all. I have found healing by the grace of god. I just want to hug gabriel my son. It will happen in heaven. There will be much rejoicing on that day. Thank you for writing a song about it. There needs to be more.

The song is about the regret that almost always comes when women have abortions. This song is also giving hope to these women and men in knowing that their baby is in heaven waiting for his or her parents. There needs to be more pro life songs because abortion has made so many women miserable.
