Stereolab – French Disko lyrics
Though this world's essentially an absurd place to be living in
It doesn't call for total withdrawal

I've been told it's a fact of life
Men have to kill one another
Well I say there are still things worth fighting for

La resistance!

Though this world's essentially an absurd place to be living in
It doesn't call for (bubble withdrawal)

It said human existence is pointless
As acts of rebellious solidarity
Can bring sense in this world

La resistance!

My interpretation of this song is related widely to the writings of French philosopher Albert Camus, who contributed to the rise of the philosophy known as absurdism. "The Absurd" refers to the conflict between the human tendency to seek inherent value and meaning in life and the human inability to find any.

Camus' shared solution with revolt in his writings "The only way to deal with an unfree world is to become so absolutely free that your very existence is an act of rebellion" Other philosophers such as Jean-Paul Sartre made reference to absurdism but reworked the first truth with existentialism which implies that one can create their own meaning in life.

Whereas, Camus' cure for nihilism was highlighted in The Myth of Sisyphus - "The struggle itself towards the heights is enough to fill a man's heart. One must imagine Sisyphus happy." My interpretation is that life is meaningful simply because it is. Other lyrics like "Men have to kill one another" can be compared to "Violence is both unavoidable and unjustifiable.", another of Camus' quotes.

With that I can confidently assume that the writer/s of this song are absurdists for they are promoting the views of an absurdist in many ways.
