System Of A Down – Hypnotize lyrics
Why don't you ask the kids at Tiananmen Square,
Was fashion reason why they were there
?
They disguise it,
Hypnotize it,
Television made you buy it.

I'm just sitting in my car and waiting for my-

She's scared that I will take her away from there.
Dreams and her country left with no one there.
Mezmerize the,
Simple minded,
Propaganda,
Leaves us blinded.

I'm just sitting in my car and waiting for my girl.
I'm just sitting in my car and waiting for my girl.

[Solo]

I'm just sitting in my car and waiting for my girl.
I'm just sitting in my car and waiting for my girl.

I was talking to a friend about this song, and we think this song is a conversation between two people. The first person asks why do you think the people in tiananmen square were really there. Was it a fashion statement (i.e. is it fashionable to rebel against the government?) or were they there because they knew what was about to happen to their country? The second person listens for a minute, then tries to dodge the question by saying that he's just waiting for his girl. He doesn't care because nothing is personally happening to him. The group is trying to warn people about how foolish it is to ignore something and let outside forces determine how you view the world because you don't want to think about it. The song ends with I'm waiting for my girl repeated aver and over again because the second person has heard the truth but doesn't want to believe that it is relevant to his life; the truth scares him.

I'm saying this song is about a man who is wise enough to see these things, like: the propaganda, biased media, manipulative and addicting entertainment and even pushy businesses basing the economy on how much they can sell rather than what the consumer needs. He's basically had enough and is ready to leave. Hence why he's waiting in his car. Now when he's talking about his girl he's saying exactly that. That she is scared to leave with him. Scared to leave it all behind. But he wont leave without her. He needs someone. Everyone needs someone.

It's talking about how the media has hypnotized the younger generations into having ideas about politics that are either false or giving them ideas that will lean them more towards the opinions of the media instead of the kids growing their own opinions for themselves. I'm classified as the younger generation but I come up with my own opinions on what I believe is right or wrong and I don't let any person or mediator tell me what to believe. And I think it's bull crap that the media does this. Just like how fox news changed up some of the interviews with the presidential candidates back in september-november of 2008 to get people to vote for Obama more. As if there wasn't already enough people telling someone to just because he's african-American. (which was the stupidest reason anyone would've voted him for.)
