Ten Years After – I'd Love To Change The World lyrics
Everywhere is freaks and hairies
Dykes and fairies, tell me where is sanity

Tax the rich, feed the poor
Till there are no rich no more

I'd love to change the world
But I don't know what to do
So I'll leave it up to you

Population keeps on breeding
Nation bleeding, still more feeding economy
Life is funny, skies are sunny
Bees make honey, who needs money, monopoly

I'd love to change the world
But I don't know what to do
So I'll leave it up to you

World pollution, there's no solution
Institution, electrocution
Just black and white, rich or poor
Them and us, stop the war

I'd love to change the world
But I don't know what to do
So I'll leave it up to you

In 1967 and 1968 There was so much confusion from so many different directions It was not only a very exciting time but a time when everything was moving so fast around you; It was hard to keep up" and/or decide what side to be on. Everyone was taking sides for something, freedom or fight against It. A freedom long forgotten. People don't think about just how fast we have evolved as a Nation. Clearly, 1967 or 68 was Indeed a different world. So different It can not be explained to a person say 25yr's. old today, so they could understand. You simply where there or you were not. Your not going to really understand the meaning Of this song like many other political songs of that era, with out having lived at that time, protesting the war; and the growing fascism from our gov. at that time, Which now, Is almost a full-grown gorilla . The music at the time were Only the greats of the Past. MLK was killed that year" The Civil rights movements Christian Black leader. Riots in the streets were every-where.
There was turbulence In society from many angles to many to mention.
The constant political heat of American pop culture, which our government has effectively now put to rest. (Clintons 96 telecom act) People don't even know today what It's like listening to radio that's loaded with new songs every day! Much less how effectively the Music industry exposed corruption In gov & corporations; and the news media did the same In many case's. That's all over. We live in complete Censorship denial debauchery today; racing to oblivion of this freedom we once new. All Alvin was saying was, It's over my head" wish I new what to do...But really; you had to be there to simply understand how over your head and time when this was sung. The song applies today; because were so much more far-gone now, then back then. There won't be another Kennedy or a Real news company that cover's the gov. Instead of covers UP for gov. This country Is nearing It's last rights. We are at the bottom of every meaning-full list In the world. Like the song says... "Nation bleeding, still more feeding economy" (Wall street). Take Polosee, In 68 she would have been laughed out of office-with a line like "lets pass it first then we'll see what's in It" Sounds like a drunken politician? You tell me.
Absolute power corrupts" evil Only wins, when good people-(supposable journalist) stand by and stay silent" or do nothing. Don't rock the boat". Our country can not pay back anyone or anything" and the numbers keep going Up. I don't know about you, but If I release a brake on a car at the top of a hill; and It's going faster and faster down; to lets say a brick wall" what do you think Is going to happen? So I'll leave It up to you.

I think the chorus and probably verses as well are tinged with a bit of sarcasm and frustration. It is certainly frustrating to me to know that this song was written when I was an infant and is still relavent now that I am a middle aged man. Certainly as long as we live in a world where greed is king and human beings are seen as commodities, things will not change. The meek may inherit the earth but they won't take it by force, and their inheritance will have been spent and worthless when the get it. I'll leave it up to you is exemplary of the defeatist attitude that most of the beaten down masses seem to have. Not to get political but obama said yes we can not yes I can. I think it was eisenhower that said, when pressed for reform, you have to make me do it!
