Terry Kelly – A Pittance Of Time lyrics
They fought and some died for their homeland.
They fought and some died, now it's our land
.
Look at his little child; there's no fear in her eyes.
Could he not show respect for other dads who have died
?

Take two minutes, would you mind?
It's a pittance of time,
For the boys and the girls who went over.
In peace may they rest, may we never
Forget why they died.
It's a pittance of time.

God forgive me for wanting to strike him.
Give me strength so as not to be like him.
My heart pounds in my breast, fingers pressed to my lips,
My throat wants to fall out, my tongue barely resists.

But two minutes I will bide.
It's a pittance of time
,
For the boys and the girls who went over.
In peace may they rest.
May we never forget why they died.
It's a pittance of time.

Read the letters and poems of the heroes at home.
They have casualties, battles, and fears of their own.
There's a price to be paid if you go, if you stay.
Freedom's fought for and won in numerous ways.

Take two minutes, would you mind?
It's a pittance of time,
For the boys and the girls all over.
May we never forget, our young become vets.
At the end of the line,
It's a pittance of time.

It takes courage to fight in your own war.
It takes courage to fight someone else's war.
Our peacekeepers tell of their own living hell.
They bring hope to foreign lands that hate mongers can't kill.

Take two minutes, would you mind?
It's a pittance of time,
For the boys and the girls who go over.
In peacetime our best still don battle dress
And lay their lives on the line.
It's a pittance of time

In peace may they rest,
Lest we forget why they died,
Take a pittance of time.

This song really has great meaning. I almost cried the first time I sang it, and usually I'm not that emotional! I watched the video and I seriously wanted to smack than careless man! I am fortunate enough not to have family members who were drafted, but every year I pray for those in the war. This song inspired me to wing at a Remembrance Day assembly, and to act out a tableaux at the Same assembly. I love the line, " it takes courage to fight in your own war, it takes courage to fight someone else's war," we all have our own wars to fight, whether they be literal wars or emotional. Fighting is not the answer to everything though. Be strong enough to stand up for yourself and your life will be soooooo much better! Love to all of you guys, a passionate friend.

Surprise surprise unregistered is an American who thinks everything is about them. There are 3 things in this song that describe the canadian military. We will just ignore his blatant ignorance that we share the same memorial day our day is nov 11th remembrance day, the American is November 11 memorial... anyways!!!
1 the video features poppies, this was a gift from the polish to the Canadian military during the first world War. It is why we wear poppies on remembrance day. Most belive it to be because of the poem. But that poem was made for the poppies in Flanders fields not the significance of them. Second, the US military is not a peace keeping military, they fight their own wars end of story, this has been truth since wwII, I won't go into it but the states would not fight until the japs and the germans attacked them and their civilian ships. There are other wars that we won't go over but I will say this... oil. Third, the uniforms worn by the vets in the video are canadian, sorry to say. That being said the song isn't that closed minded. Rememberance day is not just for our vets and military, its for all those who gave their lives to protect what is right, freedom. Thank you.

This song always gets me crying because I had a great grandfather who was hit in the head with a piece of shrapnel but he was lucky he had his helmet on at the time. Because if he didn't have the helmet on I wouldn't be alive today and I am thankful that he survived.

This song is incredible. Every time I hear the opening I get a lump in my throat, and by the end I am crying. It is so humbling to see how men and women were willing to go through hell and sacrifice themselves for the cause during both world wars. The soldiers who have served and died for us are brave and deserve so much respect. May they forever rest in peace.

A lot of people are under the assumption that he's talking about Canadian forces. This is incorrect. If you watch his music video, in the very beginning it states it's the 11th hour of the 11th day of November. That's the American memorial day. The Canadian memorial day is July 1st.
