The Devil Wears Prada – Dogs Can Grow Beards All Over lyrics
Welcome to the war.
Welcome to the war.
A martyr's challenge.

Chainsaw brutality.
Tornado strength.
Chainsaw brutality.
Tornado strength.
Chainsaw brutality.
Tornado strength.
Chainsaw brutality.
Tornado strength.

King of the diamond.
King of the grave.
King of the diamond.
King of the grave.

Lawlessness stains black on whitewashed tombs.
We're too strong to compromise.
Don't be ashamed of your faith.

Dear Lord - deliver me from hypocrisy and surcease.
The scarlet desire.
The scarlet desire.

He wears a slick jacket and gold watch.
Her dishonesty has scarred hands.
Has scarred hands.
He wears a slick jacket, he wears a jacket.

I hate the lyric about being too strong to compromise. Maybe being absolutely set on an idea like God existing or the opposite, being convinced he does not and being un-willing to change your view isn't a good one. That kind of thing just breeds intolerance. I do however love the lyrics to the devil wears prada, there are some really profound statements and observations on the way humans live.

Just wondering, what does he mean by "her dishonesty has scared hands" the "scared hands" seems to have a connection to jesus, but I don't understand the "her dishonesty" part. The pronoun use throws me off too. The analysis given by xattackattackx is good, but I'm still iffy on that line, and it really caught my eye so I was just wondering if anyone had some more insight on that?
I love this band tho :)

Okay I have a question please its for my theology homework. I'm suppose to find 3 songs and explain the message/meaning of each song and why you think its prophetic. I'm stuck on the word "prophetic" I don't understand what the teacher is asking by this. I'm new to this religion class I've gone to public up to 8th grade and currently at a private catholic high school. But I thought id try to do 1 of the tdwp songs cuz their an amazing band and I love them. Sooo please if you can explain what prophetic means thanks.

Wow, I could read posts like this all day, I think fabihasabin hit the nail on the head when it comes to the meaning other than the last bit, I think that they are reffering to sin when they say "he wears a slick jacket"and is asking God to deliver him of his sins and tempatations but. These are all just opinions and not everyone has the same beleifs so not everyone will find the same meaning in the song.

Lyricwatcher: of course it doesn't. I only go on sundays when I can, but I go on wednesdays. I've gone on mission trips and the whole shebang, but I just can't go on sundays due to personal restraints.
Theduggan: I think you took my meaning of 'good" as "pure". i meant it more as, without prior corruption, the human will naturally choose to do what society has come to know as "the right thing" (and yes, I know that term is completely relative, but cut me some slack lol).

K well I like this band, I'm not exactly what you would call religious, I don't attend church, so does that make me a bad person? Even though I've kept people from attempting suicide? No it doesn't a good person doesn't have to have a religion, they just need to help others out of the goodness of their heart, so don't be blasting people just cause they don't believe in something, but don't go around saying that religions are lies either.

The war in the first stanza refers to the on going war between the people and "the man". "the man" reigns too harshly, with "chainsaw brutality" and "tornado strength", as stated in the second stanza. In the third stanza, the lyrics refer to how he/she has wealth and security, "king of the diamond", but also how they have the power to end everything, "king of the grave". Then, in the fourth stanza, hranica writes that we are all strong enough to overcome the oppressing reign of "the man", and not to give in to what they preach. Obviously in the fifth stanza they are praying to god. But in the final stanza, it basically accents the content of the third stanza.

Wait. Fabi. So only "good religious people" die for their cause? I mean, heros would gladly die for their cause, but if you ask anyone, they would rather live for it. And "whitewashed" doesn't necessarily mean "good human beings". All humans are born good, so adding that makes it sound like we can be born evil. One last thing; good=religious? There are many people in my life that I would call "good" that aren't exactly religious. They're not atheists, but they don't attend church, and they don't follow any sort of religion, but they're good people nonetheless.

Ok, this singer isn't that deep. He throws in words that sound good and this might sound stupid but a reocurrin motive in steven kings "the dead zone" was that through the killers eyes he was obbsessed with how 'slick' his jacket was. And, the book (about a man who has powers to see visions) faced many contadictions of his power with his dead mothers religious obsessions and his attempt to prevent a campaining politician from getting power becasue his aim was to plung the country into unneccisary war. And I know all you fans of this band will be all "hey man, this isnt from a book, this guys are geniusus" no, they just don't think anyone knows what they are saying so they will say anything that sounds good.
