Vanessa Williams – Colors Of The Wind lyrics
You think you own whatever land you land on
The earth is just a dead thing you can claim
But I know every rock and tree and creature
Has a life, has a spirit, has a name

You think the only people who are people
Are the people who look and think like you
But if you walk the footsteps of a stranger
You'll learn things you never knew you never knew

Have you ever heard the wolf cry to the blue corn moon
Or asked the grinning bobcat why he grinned?
Can you sing with all the voices of the mountain?
Can you paint with all the colors of the wind?
Can you paint with all the colors of the wind?

Come run the hidden pine trails of the forest
Come taste the sun-sweet berries of the earth
Come roll in all the riches all around you
And for once, never wonder what they're worth

The rainstorm and the river are my brothers
The heron and the otter are my friends
And we are all connected to each other,
In a circle, in a hoop that never ends

Have you ever heard the wolf cry to the blue corn moon
Or let teh eagle tell you where he's been
Can you sing with all the voices of the mountain?
Can you paint with all the colors of the wind
Can you paint with all the colors of the wind

How high does the sycamore grow?
If you cut it down, then you'll never know

And you'll never hear the wolf cry to the blue corn moon
For whether we are white or copper-skinned
We need to sing with all the voices of the mountain
Need to paint with all the colors of the wind
You can own the earth and still
All you'll own is earth until
You can paint with all the colors of the wind

This song is pocahontas making john smith realise that nature is full of life, and joy, and secrets, that it is not purely for someone to claim. It is also to say that the differences between us don't matter; whether it be the colour of our skin, our nationality, or even our opinions. This song is saying that the spirit of the world is connected, in one big circle, in one family. That the world is not cold and dead, that its not something to claim for one's own benefit, but to cherish. To seek out joy.

The song which is very beautiful in lyrics and melody is about to different cultures. It's about the one person of one culture trying to process and recreate the earth. Whereas this person of another culture understands and see the beauty of nature and the creation that was already given to us to cherish. She pocahontas seeks to show that we are all of one creation and all connected together. To destroy one part of this life is to destroy a part of us. Wonder why the wolf cries to the new moon, or maybe take the time to see the sights of the soaring eagle and ask of him to tell you of the sights that he has seen. And that's only the beginning to understanding the color of the wind.

It's for me so special, because I am falling deeply in love with a man who I barely know, but it all ready feels like I have known him for my whole life. It is difficult, because I haven't told him yet what my feelings are and I don't know how to do that. I hope he's a little bit more patient, I will tell him, I need to because if feels so precious and it is so pure my love for him. I hope he will except it and that he loves me too. For me this will last forever! And with te help of god it will be very special for always. I love you cees and I promiss to tell you within those two upcoming weeks.

This song is beautiful. It portrays the them of racial segregation and suffering especially on black people by the whites and copper skinned who have proven to be selfish ever since. The victims in turn have answered them in a song: ...the earth is a dead thing you would claim.... Can you paint with colours of the wind? To mean that the the whites are vain. The more they assume the world to be theirs, the more they lie to themselves. So they need to respect other people s life styles.

The earth is not just a place to live for humans. Everything has life, spirit and a name. The earth is a good place. Eventhough she (pocahontas) lives in the forest, she treasures what she has now. In the woods, she can be carefree with her life. She never cares about the money, possession or business. Nature, animals and she become friends. They are connetected to each other. They are a circle and cannot be separated. Not all humans will understand all these things. Some will just damage it. We just want to save our nature but some people will not understand it forever. She mentioned that "can you paint all the colors of the wind? ", means, can you paint the earth to be colorful brimming with wishes? She hopes the earth is not damaged and she loves her life in the forest very much. -yue cheng.

Merci a' toi aussi, Sheila, ma chere amie! J'aime beaucoup cette chanson aussi. Je veux pas precher aux autres, au moins, dans cette circonstance; but I really wish that more people would listen and pay attention to the message that is hidden in that song. It is a beautiful song with a very powerful message. You should be able to watch the video as well, Sheila. Just click on Venessa's picture and give your device about 30-45 seconds to download it for you. You will enjoy watching the video, if you have not watched it yet. Anyway, am glad you like it too. Vanessa Williams is a very talented singer.!
