Within Temptation – Bittersweet lyrics
If I tell you
Will you listen?
Will you stay?
Will you be here forever?
Never go away?

Never thought things would change
Hold me tight
Please don't say again
That you have to go

A bitter thought
I had it all
But I just let it go
Oh, this silence
It's so violent
Since your're gone

All my thoughts are with you forever
Until the day we'll be back together
I will be waiting for you

If I had told you
You would have listened
You had stayed
You would be here forever
Never went away
It would never have been the same
All our time
Would have been in vain
Cause you had to go

The sweetest thought
I had it all
Cause I did let you go
All our moments
Keep me warm
When you're gone

All my thoughts are with you forever
Until the day we'll be back together
I will be waiting for you.

To me this song means that she's not afraid to confront her past, even if she did do somethings that she regrets now but she can move on.
Maybe she broke up with the one she really loved, or let them slip away and she's reftlecting on that. "If I had told you would have listened
    You would have stayed".
I know its really over used; you don't know what you've got 'till its gone and she knows that now after such heartbreak.
Wow. You just really made me think more about this song ^^.

This song will cut down the mightest. Another, song about the dissoulation of death. Regret feels her loss, about all the things that could have been said, all the things that coud have been done. She reflects backs to those happy days with a bias eye that she everthing she trully need. She pleads for the his memory to stay with her. The memories, the tastes, the feel the tapestry of their life together. However, the process of bereavement is to allow the immediatcy of the memory to fade. So, you don't become a prisoner of the past. The ultimate compromise, she allows the reflexive memory of his extential being in her heart. This will allow her to achieve closure and to go on with her life. Until they meet in the afterlife. So touching in this age of venal greed, and pretty selfishness for somone to recover with dignity.
