Zager And Evans – In The Year 2525 lyrics
In the year 2525
If man is still alive
If woman can survive
They may find
In the year 3535
Ain't gonna need to tell the truth, tell no lies
Everything you think, do, and say
Is in the pill you took today

In the year 4545
Ain't gonna need your teeth, won't need your eyes
You won't find a thing to chew
Nobody's gonna look at you

In the year 5555
Your arms are hanging limp at your sides
Your legs got nothing to do
Some machine is doing that for you

In the year 6565
Ain't gonna need no husband, won't need no wife
You'll pick your son, pick your daughter too
From the bottom of a long glass tube' Whoooa

In the year 7510
If God's a-comin' he ought to make it by then
Maybe he'll look around himself and say
Guess it's time for the Judgement day

In the year 8510
God is gonna shake his mighty head then
He'll either say I'm pleased where man has been
Or tear it down and start again

In the year 9595
I'm kinda wondering if man is gonna be alive
He's taken everything this old earth can give
And he ain't put back nothing

Now it's been 10, 000 years
Man has cried a billion tears
For what he never knew
Now man's reign is through
But through eternal night
The twinkling of starlight
So very far away
Maybe it's only yesterday

In the year 2525
If man is still alive
If woman can survive
They may thrive
In the year 3535
Ain't gonna need to tell the truth, tell no lies
Everything you think, do or say
Is in the pill you took today....(fading...)

This song means something to me because I am the one who wrote it and sang lead on the RCA release, 1969. What I wanted to say is exactly what I wrote: beware of technology and use it well lest it runs out of control and dehumanizes all of us.
Legal: "In the Year 2525 (Exordium & Terminus)" was written exclusively, lyrics & music, by Richard (Rick) S. Evans.

This song was written during the height of the tune in and tune out drug times and of course when free uncommitted love was the way of life. This song reflected the growing concern also of pills being made for every facet of our lives. Also, the concern for the environment which was rarely talked about the politicians. This song played at high volume really rocked. It was played at Hugh Hefners playboy mansion in Chicago as a big crowd favorite.

I was 13 years old when I first heard the song in THe YEAR 2525 and I realised that the lyrics were different from other songs this song was telling us something but no one listened or is listening.Zager, Evans n Rick are prophets of our time.if we could take some steps back. slow down, live life as simple as we can.each of us could make a difference.

Interesting ... "But through eternal night The twinkling of starlight So very far away Maybe it's only yesterday" is profound. That could be construed as relating to the eternal expansion, contraction, rebirth cycle of the universe. Serendipity Mr. Evans? Or were you a physics major? I also like the concept of "changing the world today (or "yesterday" in the song, as the 60's saw great changes in America's youth and culture.

We've been destroying earth and "we've put nothing back". Slowly but surely e seem hell-bent of killing ourselves, every kind of specie on earth. Man never learns from his mistakes. Man pursues historical materialism not only at the expense of others but also of himself without him knowing or caring about this. We're greedy and selfish and unthinking, and we might just pay the price ultimately when there is no earth left to call home.

I remember this song I was 10 years old in 1969. It was both frightening and enlightening. Now in 2021 I feel Zager and Evans were generous in giving the human race 10000 years to turn itself around. War, pollution, overpopulation, disease and confusion will win the race against mankind much sooner. Nature is the master of this world. She is generous and graceful but she has and will eliminate any species at any time. Knowing this and slowly responding through 50 years, we only care for what we can have now, we are the only ones that matter. We can pray to God and he will help but he will not solve our problems for us .

I think it is super cool that the artist weighed in on his own song. Not sure it was intended, but I got a gnostic vibe. It seems like it was inspired by ancient wisdom. I love that the door was left cracked open at the end with “they may thrive”.

I personally love the part where they say that man has taken all this old earth can give and they ain't put back nothing. It's true, we treat the earth like our personal trash can and expect to be around forever? Not gonna happen people. The other part I love is the ending. Because you can begin to change the world before it ends up like it does in the song. Now this might not be correct, but this is my personal opinion.

Profecy? I think it is coming long before then. We have your prozac, done all of these things, test tube babies, dna, and I don't think we will have to wait until 2525. I think god is already tearing the world down or allowing us to do it and will make his judgement on each and every one of us loongg before 2525! Just my opinion. My advise, tho unasked, is make yourself right in the eyes of our lord jesus christ! Amen this last sentence I know in my heart is true! Think about it now. What have you got to lose. An eternity in heaven or hell or if you think it just ends after this body dies. You have nothing to lose by saying and believing in your heart that jesus christ is your savior, do you?

The song's lyrics although written in the sixties or so (?), hence such a long time ago, was able to predict so many things. One think I predicted too, some 20 years ago is that marriage will disappear from the face of the earth and today you see less and less marriage that last and less and less people who get married due to equal rights.
The children will grow without parents, without a guide or direction in life, without any affection. They will grow like a weeds on the side of the road. Time to shake the world.

We do give back to the earth. When we die, we contribute our bodies. When we mine, we bring things to light, so on. We give back just as ants, termites, other species give back.

I remember this song from when I was very young. The people/person who wrote it was very smart, wise, perhaps a moment of clairvoyance. The pills are hawked on prime time tv but they've been around since I can remember.

Civilisations die and are born again. The more things change, the more they stay the same.

How small do you think the earth is, that 7billion population is too much? You sir/madam are truly ignorant about Mathematics. I will give you a clue how to do that. Go to that website called Google and enter the following search term, what is the land mass of the earth in acres. This will give the land mass of the planet. Now using the same principle get the land mass of Australia in acres. Now divide the Australian land mass by 4. That is to you a quarter of an acre. I just remember the quarter concept is probably alien to your intellectual capacity. The quarter is one fourth of an

Great song, it's too bad that along with the industrial revolution came gross overpopulation. 7 billion people is ridiculous and unsustainable too many people too many problems realistically you can't address the problems, so you just cope the best you can as it gets worse and be thankful you don't live in a tiny country like India with 1.4 billion people.
Our mother earth is being trashed at a exponential rate and what pisses me off is we got the internet, cellphones news, etc and poor mother earth never makes headlines instead it some Hollywood bullshit wheres the anger wheres the protests how come were not boycotting chinas exports they put a polluting coal power plant on line every 10 days there needs to be more interest in liquid fluoride thorium reactors for electrical generation that's the ticket.
